Importance
editI am frankly amazed to find this enormously important building, described in every architectural textbook, classified (along with Angkor Wat and some others) as of High, rather than "top" importance. By comparison, almost every French German or US architect who rates a stub is classified as being of "top importance". How so? Amandajm (talk) 13:46, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Suggested work
edit- Rationalize reference format by listing sources below, with short-form references (i.e., [author] [(year)] p. n).
I have combined duplicative references; a review of my work is welcome.Stricken, due to removal of prior copyrighted material. Kablammo (talk) 11:58, 23 April 2012 (UTC) - We need a history of its post-construction use.
- I removed the "Legacy" section as it made the uncited assertion that this church inspired Saints Sergius and Bacchus. At least some sources indicate it was the other way around. If reliable sources differ, the difference should be given, with citations. And the influence of this building should be given, perhaps in a new reference section. Unfortunately I lack ready access to sources, except the 1976 Mango book, which devotes but a page to San Vitale. Kablammo (talk) 19:09, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Copyright violations
editUnfortuanely I have had to remove over half of this article, as material added in March was copied and pasted verbatim from at least four different sources. I had since edited some of that text, and my edits, together with those of other editors who contributed since March, have been removed. I will attempt to salvage what can be saved. I found an error in this article. in "He also holds a patan and is shown with a 3 day beard ", I think that patan has to be replaced as paten.. because I searched for word "patan", but that word refered to places in India and Nepal. On the other hands, paten is a small plate for christian usage. Eastern7 (talk) 07:20, 23 April 2008 (UTC) |

About the significance of basilica
editThe Basilica of San Vitale has been elevated to Minor basilica in 1960 by Pope John XXIII. Instead of explaining the meaning of Basilica in the context of Catholicism, a wiki link to Minor basilica page should suffice. Carlotm (talk) 21:13, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
