Two sports: 3x3 and 5x5

edit

The Olympics seem to treat 3x3 and (traditional) 5x5 as two sports.[1]. Why do we not do the same? If Wikipedia is going to make the editorial decision to combine them, it seems like the page should have a dedicated subsection for 5x5 instead of having its men's and women's sections at the top level, while 3x3 is relagated to a subsection.—Bagumba (talk) 05:40, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

For me we can seperate them. That's quick work but not sure what other editors think about it. Kante4 (talk) 08:28, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
We're fairly inconsistent on how we treat different disciplines (3x3 and traditional are separate "disciplines" within the "sport" of basketball), though, honestly, so is the IOC (compare equestrian and wrestling vs. aquatics and cycling in this programme with olympics.com). I'm good with separating the basketball disciplines. They're different enough, and our pages on each are/can be long enough, that it makes sense. (Would also do beach volleyball/indoor volleyball as well.) -- Jonel (Speak to me) 09:47, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rule for points in standings

edit

Can anyone explain the points in the standings? So far, it appears to be that the winner team gets 2 points and the losing team gets 1. Surely there's more to the system than this. I clicked my way through the FIBA standings, and then the FIBA rules, and I couldn't find any explanation for the point system. If the rule really is that the winners gets 2 points and the loser gets 1, the article should either explain that, or, better yet, omit the points column, because the points add no information. That's been the case for years now (in (nearly) all FIBA competition) and it was never a problem so far. Kante4 (talk) 05:54, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Losses on forfeit are worth zero points, and can come in play if the forfeiting team is not disqualified outright (they are disqualified if they forfeit 2 or more games). Howard the Duck (talk) 18:33, 3 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
