Kit colours
editI changed the socks to red according to [1]. That site also says the shirt has "white and red edges". I'm not exactly sure what that means. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 17:29, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I see they're actually green according to images of a game they played against Wales. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 18:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Should there really be flag icons, since they are all Basque anyway?--the Dannycas 19:03, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Basque Country is a national team
editSatesclop, please can you take your anti-Basque and anti-Catalan agenda elsewhere. A national football team does not have to represent an independent state. There are several cases in Europe alone where autonomous regions have national teams. Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Faroe Islands are all recognised by UEFA and FIFA and use the term national team in their articles. Political status has nothing to do with it. Even so both the Basque Country and Catalonia have more autonomy than the above. Djln--Djln 16:21, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Sorry but the basque regional team is in no way a national team. The Basque team is not entitled to participate in any official competition of the world. As you stated in your post, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are recognized by UEFA and FIFA. The Basque "national" team is not. That's a fact beyond discussion.
Also, as you yourself have stated, we are not talking about the political status, therefore the level of autonomy is completely irrelevant. We are talking here about footbal teams. In that sense, the Basque "national" team is an unofficial one.
By the way, since you talk about an "anti-Basque and anti-Catalan agenda", we might also take notice that there is a powerful agenda implemented by the nationalist Basque regional government in order to use this very Basque team as a political tool. Intoxication of Spanish and international media is a preferred instrument of this agenda. Ijontichy (talk) 00:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Famous players?
editHave any of those players listed ever played for the Basque national team? If not, they should be taken down, as the category listing Basque football players is more than adequate Pennywisepeter 12:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- All the players listed has played at least once for the team. If you check the websites listed in the external links section you can, see for yourself. Djln--Djln 14:44, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Type of team
editThe Basque Country football team participates in the RFEF championship for young players of the different regional teams for each Spanish Comunidad Autónoma. That team is therefore officially recognised as a regional football team by the RFEF, not a national one as it doesn't participate in official international competitions. Concerning the Euskal Herria one that played against Catalonia recently it is not an official team of any federation, but rather a symbolic one, as the Basque Federation is only for the current Basque Country, i.e. not of Navarre or the French Basque Country.
I therefore think that the difference between those two teams needs to be specified, and the comparison made in a past discussion about its equivalence to the Scotish, Welsh, English ones is not correct, as those teams are recognised by UEFA/FIFA for international competitions.Escorial82 (talk) 11:14, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
I would also challenge the assertion that Spanish/French laws keep the Basque team from being recognized by UEFA/FIFA. As far as I know, UEFA/FIFA are independent bodies based in Switzerland, and Spanish/French laws do not affect it. I would suspect that UEFA/FIFA simply chooses not to recognize the Basque team, but we should need verifiable sources on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonah0321 (talk • contribs) 20:20, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Cantabria / Corsica
editJust a small point, I see the 1936 match v Cantabria has been placed into the 'non-national section of matches. Obviously that region doesn't have much desire to separate from Spain, but it is a regional select and so has as much legitimacy as the Corsican, Catalan or indeed the Basque teams, so really I think it should be in the national list (or move the others as they aren't 'official' nations, but that doesn't seem sensible).
