The article should be called: The Light Infantry Battalion for Overseas. This is the English encyclopedia and not the French one. Caden cool 00:44, 3 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wow, I guess to AGF means I should assume that you must think that I may very well have been intending to post this article in English on French wikipedia but landed here by mistake, hence your: "This is the English encyclopedia and not the French one." (but no citation from the WP:MOS, for example, that would provide some actual support, if there is any, for titling it one way or the other, beyond just national chauvinism, one you realize now that I did intend to post it here thusly (more or less).
The issue is that in all of the english language reference works that I've found thus far, they use the French name and then subsequently refer to the organization as BILOM. Look at Forbes's book in particular. Had you ever heard of BILOM before you read about it here, or possibly saw it on the Military History project page? If so, then would you please let me know what some of the reliable sources we could turn to and consider that actually refer to The Light Infantry Battalion for Overseas, and not simply BILOM? I'd initially titled the article w/ the BILOM acronym in the title, but user:Nick-D removed the BILOM and left the full proper name (which is still the name referred to in the source(s). So yeah, User:Caden, get back to me/us with what your back-story is on this, if your a BILOM specialist or familiar with english-language works that nevertheless refer to BILOM by the full english name; or are you just thinking you're defending, somehow, english-language wikipedia from having a French title for an article, even when no sources are offered that support that usage. I saw it on the MILT project. No, I'm not an expert on the subject and only learned of it on here. I havnt looked at any of the sources so I'm not sure what the correct name is or should be. The French title looked weird for an English encyclopedia and after having read the article, I decided that the name should be changed. That's basically it. I wasnt assuming bad faith, just stating my opinion. Caden cool 19:39, 4 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for checking in, User:Caden. The discussion at Milt project evolved a bit after I posted in response to your concerns, and user:Nick-D explained that if the French name is the common one by which the unit is known in English language press, that's what we should go with (ironically, I dropped two accent-type marks from one of the French words when I was transcribing it originally, so User:Brigade Piron had to correct the title anyway, and then he reordered the English-language translation so it's more readable). Again, thanks for checking in. If you have a few minutes t spare, check out the Google preview of Forbes's book, which has almost all of the C.18, which is on BILOM. It's pretty cool and there is some more very useful information about what the unit actually did and how it successfully evolved through combat effectiveness that will have to go into this article. Cheers! Azx2 19:57, 4 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ok so it's obvious that Forbes refers to it by the French name. Thanks for that link, but it still looks just weird to me and doesnt feel right. I feel the article should use the English name and perhaps use its French name in brackets. I don't know. Caden cool 20:20, 4 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Caden, de means "of" (i.e. not "for").—Brigade Piron (talk) 20:28, 4 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Nick-D: @Brigade Piron: @Caden: Question - can we not simply create an "article" Overseas Light Infantry Battalion that is simply a redirect to Bataillon d'Infanterie légère d'Outre-Mer? I don't know protocol or technique for such an undertaking, so I ask you all here. Thoughts? Azx2 17:27, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yes you can create that article and have it redirect to this one. I like your idea and I think you should do it. Caden cool 20:41, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
There is a separate article Battalions of Light Infantry of Africa covering the long established corps (1832-1972) of which BILOM was part. Buistr (talk) 23:47, 30 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Infobox

edit

It might be a good idea to add an infobox to the article. Caden cool 03:15, 21 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, it might not. CassiantoTalk 20:29, 26 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Cass please stop stalking my edits, stop following me around and just leave me be. You were blocked not even a month ago and you were told by several admins to leave me alone. I'm fed up with you, got it? Do you want me to take you back to ANI? Because I will. Caden cool 21:40, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
What makes you think I'd want to stalk your edits? (and it was three months ago, and 1 admin). This article, when I gave a shit about the project, was on my watchlist, and I was entitled to offer my opinion about article development. There were no sanctions or iBan's imposed on me, so I'm entitled to offer my opinion on any article despite the fact that you are there or not. Jumping forward a few months, and I'm now retired from producing top quality FA's and will only respond to people who mention me or engage me in conversation. If you don't want to engage with me, then don't. It appears that you don't want my opinion on your article so I'll move on, sorry to bother you. CassiantoTalk 11:45, 30 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
