Lead section error
editThe lead section currently includes
- Bathurst is unique in that it has a collection of house museums representing different periods of its history from first settlement to the 1970s
Clearly, the houses are more recent than the 1970's, but the 1790's seems wrong too... what year should that say? Garrie 05:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not from the area, but I'm not sure of your concern. It lists Old Government Cottage, Abercrombie House, Miss Traill's House and Chifley Home. From my one trip there I seem to remember Old Gov Cottage is c1800s, Chifley is early-mid 1900s, the other two I'm not sure about, but are any of them post 1970s? The houses may have been made museums after the 70s, but I think this is referring to the age that the houses represent. --jjron 14:22, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Distance from Sydney
edit203.58.120.11 (talk · contribs) has been changing the distance from Sydney in the infobox (as well as more obvious vandalism). He's been changing it from 279 km to 202.1 or 201.5 km. I just pulled out Google Earth and measured the distance at only 162 km! There is no way (assuming GE is correct) that Bathurst is 200 km from Sydney, let alone 279 km. Stretching the line out to around 200 km hits Orange, at about 202 km. On the other end, you're a fair way out to sea. Just looking at the Orange, New South Wales article, it claims it's 250 km from Sydney.
So what's going on here? Is Google Earth incorrect? Are the original measurements perhaps following the roads instead of taking the direct path? --Imroy 06:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- I went to google maps and tried Sydney to Bathurst. It preferred to go via M2 and Bells Line of Road and returned a distance of 203km. Forcing it to instead go along the Great Western Highway over the mountains made it also go via the M4, resulting in a distance of 201km.
- According to the line diagram at Main Western railway line, New South Wales, the railway distance is 240km.
- I guess the question at this point is what is the distance intended to represent? Road, rail or "as the crow flies"? --Athol Mullen 10:54, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Being that I am 203.58.120.11 (talk · contribs) and am from Bathurst I can tell you that the road distance is just over 200km.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.58.120.11 (talk • contribs)
Notable People
editI am 203.58.120.11 (talk · contribs) and I am a notable person. Why do I keep being removed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.58.120.11 (talk • contribs)
- Do you have a reliable source for you notability? Even if you do, you have a conflict of interest and should not add yourself. A Google search for "Simon J Surawski" returns no results and a search for "Simon Surawski" returns four. So far you're looking like a simple vandal. That's why you keep being removed. --Imroy (talk) 05:36, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Being listed in Google is not the only source of notability. If you had ever been to Bathurst, you would know I have plenty street cred. Just ask anyone in the street. Maybe you should head to the source and do some real research rather than just trusting one source and typing things into Google. If Wikipedia only uses Google as its means of validating content it severely undermines its credibility. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.58.120.11 (talk) 05:20, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- If Google isn't a good source of notability, what on Earth makes you think that "street cred" is acceptable? How about you provide an example of something you've actually done? --Imroy (talk) 09:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Normally these lists are alpha-sorted, and not chronologically listed by DoB. Any objections to alpha sorting? Rangasyd (talk) 15:20, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree with your comment about the travel guide, it is still a 'Start' Class' and I am continuing work on the article including making the article more encyclopaedic. With reference to your reversion of the population figures I disagree, the previous edit to mine edit had... and had an urban population of 28,992 people on the 2006 census night. I changed this to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics to a 2009 figure of 33,793 [[1]] this being the 'Bathurst (Statistical Subdivision)' ie City. I also included for completness the 2009 figure of 39,339 for the wider 'Bathurst Regional (A) (Local Government Area)'. As Bathurst is the service centre for this area I thought it would be useful? I dont see the point in quoting old population figures, if an encyclopaedia is to be useful it should have as up to date data as possible? The 2009 figures are published by the ABS and are widely quoted by Government. I would be keen to hear your views on this. Geez-oz (talk) 01:36, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
Question over oldest settlement, Goulburn vs Bathurst
edit124.168.213.202 (talk) the debate is over the oldest inland city, not over the claim of oldest inland settlement. Bathurst was proclaimed a town in 1815 by Governor Macquarie. The Wikipedia article on Goulburn states that a town (Goulburn) was originally surveyed in 1828. Geez-oz (talk) 14:57, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

editIs it really necessary to have journalists who studied at Charles Sturt University. Fine to mention in the university article but none of them will say they are from Bathurst. Like if someone spent a few years studying in Brisbane when not from there it doesn't appear in the Brisbane article. LibStar (talk) 14:15, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
