Talk:Batman: Arkham Asylum/Archive 1
Plot
editThe plot is based off the demo, which is very wrong and misplaced. In the actual gameplay it goes nothing like the demo. Just pointing this out. h —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.69.72.66 (talk) 19:04, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Villian Edit
editI changed around the information on the villians to reflect the information from the Game Informer article. It did not state any characters except Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc and Zsasz as villians. The other were mentioned as being inferred from things they noted while watching the game and looking around Rocksteady Studios.
Design
editShould we have a section describing the setting and how dark and gritty it is with this photo? http://kotaku.com/photogallery/batmanaa/1003187685 --Harvey "Two-Face" Dent (Muhaha!!) 13:47, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
We definately need some photos on this page. There is absolutely nothing visual on here yet. Smreece (talk) 17:20, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Isn't This Page Sorta Written Like an Advertisement?
editIt seems to promote the game a bit. I understand that most of it was lifted from articles and such that promote the game, but maybe it should be re-written. 70.72.204.39 (talk) 00:54, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, saying that this will be the "ultimate Batman experience" is just a little blatant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.128.184.214 (talk) 22:55, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

No not Gamestop, Gamespot. You know Gamespot, the video game news site? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.37.71.157 (talk) 04:46, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Now it says June 9th, but ign says Q3 2009. We need a source otherwise it should just say 2009 or TBA. 129.59.157.38 (talk) 22:54, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
IGN isn't a very trustworthy source anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.37.71.169 (talk) 02:23, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
The US release date is June 23rd, 2009, while Australia's is Q3 2009 and Europe's is TBA 2009. Link 486 (talk) 12:11, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Just check the page on Gamespot. It says it right there. Now stop changing it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.37.71.167 (talk) 22:19, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I saw it in an advertisement. If they couldn't put it there, then why would they put it anywhere? Link 486 (talk) 10:21, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
It's been delayed until the holidays. Reference: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/05/batman-arkham-asylum-delayed/ Joe12345672 (talk) 22:53, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
It's going to release in the third quarter of this year. There's no set date, but that leads me to believe that it'll release earliest in late summer, or latest in early winter. And, I tried a demo of the PS3 version yesterday. It was a simple combat challenge, but I liked what I played. As much as I don't like the delay, I'll have to say that the game will be all the better for it. Link 486 (talk) 14:20, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Start sourcing things
editIf you're gonna add stuff, source it. Any sections where 'citation needed' will have to be deleted without some sort of source. Teancum (talk) 12:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Not exactly sure how you want me to cite the special edition contents considering it was in an email ad. Although if you go to the site, you can order the special edition and it lists the contents. So take your pick. TwistedArachnid (talk) 21:39, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

blue beetle does seem very random in a Batman game. he's not really a part of the batman cast after all. Any word on what version it will be?90.195.111.21 (talk) 16:42, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- he might be in the bio section of the game there are 48 slots..--Lbrun12415 20:34, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- The thing is that the news for Blue Beetle came from a reliable source. IP users have constantly reverted this, but there hasn't been any sources that says he's not going to be in. Since we have a reliable source that does say that, he's in the article. Until a more reliable source (I.E. Rocksteady Studios or Eidos themselves) says otherwise then we follow the original source. --Teancum (talk) 21:50, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
I was watching E3's live demo of the game and one of the makers said that Catwoman would not appear in the game. If this is true why is she still listed as a character that will appear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.108.136.97 (talk) 21:03, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

I've found out that Scareface makes an appearence. He is in one of the Scarecrows fear induced dreams and he appears at the end but is being manipulated by the Joker. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.108.148.25 (talk) 18:19, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Joker Playable
editIt has been confirmed in a recent trailer that the Joker will be a playable character for the PS3 only. It will focus on his side of the story in Arkham Asylum while Batman is after him.
He will function the same way with similar gatgets that can perform sneak attacks & will have a gun.
- Yep, already covered in the article. --Teancum (talk) 01:48, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Blue Beetle
editThey are not talking about the hero Beetle but the stones you have to find.
Playstation Magazine preview from May:
“You don’t know Jack about Gotham. Tune in and find out”This is a much easier one, but a good example of the detail in the environments. Batman passes through a locker room and heard a radio blaring, which is flagged up on detective mode. Then you notice one with an exhumed coffin and a lamp burning next to it. Zooming in on the headstone reveals that its the grave of Dr. Amadeus Arkham, the founder of the Asylum. The DJ is Jack Ryder – also known as the Creeper, who may make an appearance as a boss later in the game, but that’s just a guess – and he’s reporting on the asylum takeover. Scan the radio in detective mode and you’ll solve the riddle, this is one of the easier ones to figure out. But easily missed if you’re not paying attention to your surroundings. “The legacy of this island has been well and truly buried” This ones tricky as the area is absolutely massive, but a creepy graveyard near a steep Cliffside looks like it may hold the solution, but scanning various graves yields no results. Solving this riddle unlocks Arkham’s Character Bio and reveals that after building the asylum, he ironically became one if its patients himself. There’s just so much to discover. “Find the Spirit of Arkham and unlock the Islands Secrets” One of the biggest mysteries in the game is the spirit of Arkham side quest. The Riddler asks you to scan strange stone tablets marked with ancient writing and an insect-shaped [beetle] symbol. Scanning them in Detective mode unlocks a recording of Amadeus Arkham talking about his reasons for building the asylum, they’re surprisingly dark and twisted. Amadeus expresses his Disgust at the city’s criminals and a desire to ‘cure’ them by any means necessary. There are 24 stone tablets in total hidden around the island Tablets with blue beetle symbols. The "Arkham's Greatest Mystery" Achievement is represented by a beetle symbol. So, the final mystery will be locating the twenty-four stone tablets throughout the asylum and ultimately finding out what happened to Arkham. As we know, he eventually became insane himself (as explained by in-game dialogue.)
- As you see here http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/batman-arkham-asylum/achievements/ under "World's Greatest Detective" you will see that its a Beetle.--Lbrun12415 20:16, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- It was also stated many times that Batman is in the game solo, there is No "Robin", "Nightwing" or any other "superhero".--Lbrun12415 20:35, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Arkham (2010 film) link
editThis film was proven to 1) be a fan-made trailer, and 2) is not being made into a feature film, and thus has no place in the disambiguation at the top of this article. Truthfully it doesn't meet notability guidelines anyways, and should be deleted. --Teancum (talk) 19:49, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

- I don't get how that's proof he's not in the game. Just because he escaped doesn't mean he can't return to help Joker out at the Asylum. You're probably right, but it's still speculation. --Teancum (talk) 05:35, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- that doesn't make seance since Mr. Freeze likes working alone, Plus it was already stated that in the game you will find his cell that is frozen proving he escapes during the game. No more villain announcments

15:05:29 - Super Moderating Hero: And that's it. There isn't even time to ask whether Sefton Hill would prefer lasers for eyes or the ability to turn invisible. Thank you very much to Sefton Hill for taking part, and to Eidos and Rocksteady for loaning him for an hour. Sefton Hill: Thanks for reading! I hope you all enjoy the game!
15:03:52 -
Drazlol asks: Any news regarding Eidos, Rocksteady and composer Ron Fish releasing a soundtrack for the game? Since it apparently got removed from the Collector's edition, a lot of people have groaned for it! Groan is probably the right word.
Sefton Hill: I don't have any news but they really should. I know there's been a lot of praise (rightly) for the amazing artwork that Dave Hego (Art Director) and his team have done but the score by Nick Arundel and Ron Fish is every bit as good. Just wait until you hear it.
15:01:21 - Super Moderating Hero: Time for one more question...
15:01:00 - Britesparc asks: Warner and DC must be confident in your ability now. Are there any other superhero properties you'd like to get your rubber-gloved hands on? Sefton Hill: Hmm... that's a difficult one because there are so many good choices! I've changed my mind twenty times just thinking about it. A game based around a supervillain would be cool! Super Moderating Hero: Like who? Go on, name one! Sefton Hill: Can't you see I was trying to avoid naming one?! Super Moderating Hero: Who's your favourite? Sefton Hill: I'm a big Bane fan!
14:56:37 - darkmorgado asks: I know the game hasn't been released yet, but have you got any plans for a sequel or any idea where you would take the story? Gotham City is an amazing setting. Sefton Hill: There are loads more stories we'd love to tell and lots of amazing places to go in the Batman universe! We've had tremendous feedback from the press so now it's for the Batman fans to let us know what they think of the game when it comes out. I can't comment on what Rocksteady are doing next but I can tell you that the team have got some great ideas for the future.
14:53:05 - darkknight2805 asks: What was like to work Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill? did they have any opinions on game? Is Mark Hamill still a little upset that Harrison Ford upstaged him in Star Wars? Sefton Hill: Working with Kevin and Mark was amazing. We knew from day one that we wanted them. Mark delivers an awesome performance as the Joker. He's a deadly sociopath while being extremely charismatic and funny. It's a really enjoyable combination! We actually went away and wrote a tonne of new lines for Mark after the first session because his performance was so good.
14:50:15 - Britesparc asks: Come one, let's all be honest: the only people who don't like Robin are people who are embarrassed at reading a comic book and want to legitimise it in some way by saying it's "realistic" and "for adults". Batman needs Robin the same way Holmes needs Watson, and the two characters are inseparable, thematically speaking. Sefton Hill: I love Robin! Time-wise Arkham Asylum pre-dates Robin but a lot of people who don't read the comics don't know how cool Robin can be so I'm with you on this one.
14:48:02 - Monkey_Chops asks: Any chance of co-op add-on where we could play as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl or Bat-Mite? Go on say yes! Sefton Hill: Lots of exciting ideas there! Unforuntely there are no plans for co-op. Sorry! But rest assured the time we didn't spend on co-op all went into making Batman as good as he can possibly be!
14:44:15 - TruWari3r asks: Will the Xbox 360 version get any exclusive content like the PS3 version got the Joker? Sefton Hill: There are no plans for exclusive content for the 360 version. Sorry! Super Moderating Hero: Why is that, Sefton Hill? And will The Joker ever make his way to 360? Sefton Hill: All I can say is the PS3 version has the exclusive playable Joker and there are no plans for exclusive content for any other platform.
14:40:11 - darkmorgado: Have you got plans for DLC beyond additional Challenge Rooms like single-player chapters similar to what has been released for Gears of War? And will any of the announced DLC eventually be available on all platforms? Sefton Hill: We have some cool stuff coming in the DLC but I'm afraid I'm not allowed to talk about it. Sorry! Super Moderating Hero: Can you give us a cheeky example? Will it be Challenge Rooms or something else? Sefton Hill: Sorry! I am sworn to secrecy.
14:37:38 - darkmorgado asks: How long does the main single-player campaign take to complete on average, and are there any incentives such as collectibles to reward exploration or additional playthroughs? Can you give us an example of them? Will Batman have a whole wardrobe of costumes to choose from by the end? Sefton Hill: Depending on your skill level it can vary but I would say you're looking at around 12-15 hours. On top of this there are 240 Riddler secrets in the game to collect. Solving these gives you more XP which you can use to upgrade. You can then use these upgrades in the main game as well as the Challenge maps so it pays to try and solve them. Upgrades include controllable Batarangs as well as new combat moves. Super Moderating Hero: Do you have a real-life Batman costume, Sefton Hill? How tight is it? Sefton Hill: I'm wearing my Harley Quinn outfit now. It looks great but to be honest it's chaffing a little.
14:34:16 - Super Moderating Hero: Has Eidos' high expectations on review scores had any impact on you? Sefton Hill: Our drive has always been to make a game that we are passionate about. We believe this is how you make a game that other people enjoy as well so I would say the biggest pressure comes from us. From everyone who has actually got their hands on the code we have had nothing but amazing feedback which is great to hear.
14:31:03 - Yossarian asks: How closely involved was Paul Dini? Did he just fire a script over, or was it more of an ongoing collaboration? And has he done any work at the micro level, writing dialogue for individual scenes and so on? Sefton Hill: Paul Dini worked very closely with us on the project and added a huge amount as there is literally no one who knows Batman like Paul. He came over right at the start and worked with us here at Rocksteady for a week developing the story. After this it has been an ongoing collaboration working on all the scripts with our Lead Narrative Designer, as well as attending the VO sessions... ...so VERY closely!
14:25:14 - skinnyguns asks: Carrying on from your answer to Shinomo's question - do you think in the 21st century it is still necessary for Batman to wear underpants on the outside?! Sefton Hill: No one tells Batman what to do. He can wear his underpants wherever he likes. Unless you want to tell him different!
14:29:09 - SammiiDoogles asks: When's the demo coming? And what sort of demo will it be? Sefton Hill: It's coming soon and it's going to be a really good demo! Unfortunately I can't say more than that but there will be more info released very shortly. Sorry! Super Moderating Hero: What makes it a really good demo? Is it particularly lengthy? Contain some particularly exciting content? Include rubber Bat-pants? Sefton Hill: Unfortunately my rubber Bat-pants idea got vetoed so you'll just have to make do with a demo that shows off some of the key elements of the game.
14:21:46 - henza asks: Why is everyone so buff in the game? Even the doctors look like they've been drinking four litres of Nourishment a day! Batman is pumped! Sefton Hill: Ha! We wanted to give a true representation of Batman from the comics. Here is a guy who has trained tirelessly to reach physical perfection. He is pumped and ready for action. Joker's thugs are on at least four litres of nourishment trying to keep up with him.
14:19:40 - Shinomo asks: Touching more on MZ's question. There is an "Arkham Asylum" comic book that delves very deeply into Batman's mind (courtesy of the Joker and the psychiatrist he has held hostage) and makes him question his own sanity and -therefore- whether or not he should be in Arkham along with all of the people he has put in there himself. Should he be? Is this sort of material touched on? Sefton Hill: This psychological aspect of Batman's character is something that really resonated with us and this is definitely something that you get to experience in the game. The psychological torment and drive are what keeps him going when any normal man would have stopped. However, just to be clear, Batman is not insane! [But does he wear rubber underpants we wonder? - SMH]
14:17:00 - beachballin247 asks: A lot of people previews have admitted to a boss battle before the Bane fight, but have deleted this boss' name. Any chance at a reveal of who that boss is? Sefton Hill: Ha ha ha... no chance!!! Sorry, but we've really tried to keep the story secret as we've worked so hard on it and we feel that an original gripping story is so important to making a true Batman experience.
14:14:30 -SammiiDoogles asks: Are there any other Villains who we will get to fight as bosses that haven't been revealed yet? Sefton Hill: With the announcement of Scarecrow, the main villains in the game have now been revealed, but we're not really giving away too much about how you'll get to fight them. We've spent a lot of time creating boss fights which we feel are unique and represent the character themselves as opposed to creating generic boss fights. And I can also assure you that they'll be no QTEs! Super Moderating Hero: Ooh can you give us a clue, Sefton Hill, can you? Sefton Hill: I'm not allowed!
14:12:15 - darkmorgado asks: How did you decide which villains to include? Are they personal favourites or simply the most popular characters? And are there references to Batman's comic history throughout? Sefton Hill: This was definitely a difficult choice. Something incredible about Batman is that, not only is he an amazing character, but he has undoubtedly the best array of antagonists of any comic book hero. Choosing which ones to include was difficult! However we decided that every character really needed to earn their place in the game and the story to be included. That was always what it came back to... Super Moderating Hero: (What elements of Adam West's Batman are included, Sefton Hill? Can we POW! people and THWACK! them senseless?) Sefton Hill: And of course you can properly POW! and THWACK! people - a little bit harder than Adam West got to.
14:07:47 - MZ asks: How closely does the game tie-in with the Batman universe? Is it based on a particular comic? Will there be any new lore to uncover? Sefton Hill: Very closely! We have the up-most respect for Batman and we wanted to make sure that everything we do is true to the Batman universe. However we are not tied into a particular story or comic. We have been able to draw from Batman's 70 year history to create our own unique story especially for this game.
14:05:34 - Britesparc asks: Are there any aspects of the Bat-licence that make for frustrating gameplay, or are limiting in some way? Perhaps the inability to use firearms or kill people? Sefton Hill: I think this all depends on how you approach it. It certainly means you have to move a little away from some gaming conventions but overall I think that challenges us as designers to do something new and different. It certainly meant that we had to discuss everything more to ensure that it was true to Batman and I think that had a really positive effect on the overall game.
14:03:28 - the_dudefather asks: What was it like working with a IP like Batman, was there a lot of quality control from DC or did you get to have a lot of freedom with the characters? Sefton Hill: It was great working with DC and Warner on Batman. I think very early on they realised that we are huge Batman fans and that we have a massive amount of love for this character. I was really surprised and honoured at the freedom they gave us to work on Batman.
14:02:01 - Super Moderating Hero: Hello Sefton Hill. Please can you tell our readers a bit about who you are and why you are so famous? Sefton Hill: I'm the Game Director at Rocksteady Studios. I'm pretty sure I'm not famous!
14:00:18 - Super Moderating Hero: Hello, Eurogamer readers! Sefton Hill is with us now and ready to start taking questions. Let's begin...
so with that begin said can we now fix the the character table?

- Here is a scan of a recent review confirming a Clayface appearance: http://s755.photobucket.com/albums/xx194/hommish7hill/P1010130.jpg --Razdower (talk) 19:29, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Clayface is only a cameo, not a boss fight and I'm not going to edit this page anymore, it makes me sick that idiots keep fucking it up. So here's my last fucking information about this game that has be announced By Paul and Hill. I posted the links above(not that anyone ever looks at them)...Clayface is only a cameo it was stated that he becomes Jim Gordon, Aaron Cash, and the 1st Warren you save, Quincy Sharp(The one were Harley is succeeding him) Mr.freeze has escaped he's only a Bio(you get it when you go to his frozen cell) TwoFace and the ventriloquist are cured(stated In Arkham care) They will not show up at all, not even as cameo's.. There are also other characters who are just bio's ( http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n223/Samtheman53/Untitled-2copy-30.jpg ) The ones with the :( wont be in the game, they are failed test by the Joker and his titan project. The Riddler is in the game but only as a cameo, he hacks Batmans radio and taunts him with riddles. Check the Batman forums for more information.--Lbrun12415 06:54, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Irony
editDoes anyone find it ironic that there's a request for a screen shot to improve the article above, yet if one was posted a copyright infringement alert would be posted and the shot removed? Anyway, if someone would gladly say what the terms for screen shots are, I'll find one even though there's already one or two in the article...
Xbox 360 exclusives
editAlright will there be a 360 exclusiveMastercarr (talk) 21:27, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Nobody knows, but asking once was enough. --Teancum (talk) 21:34, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Edit on first paragraph
editI'm removing the part at the end of the first paragraph stating that Eidios will still publish the game or whatever it's wording is. There isn't anything mentioned in the entire article stating otherwise, so it's useless.
Regarding Bio-only characters
editOnce the game is released, characters that only have bios need to be removed, as they will fail WP:NOTABILITY. We should only keep heroes, in-game villains, and major supporting cast. Just a heads up. --Teancum (talk) 14:19, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Could there be a special section for characters appearing only in Bios or a cameo section perhaps? Kind of how some movies have cameo sections or mentions of those cameos? --TwistedArachnid (talk) 16:33, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately not, it still fails WP:NOTABILITY. That kind of stuff is for GameFaqs anyways. --Teancum (talk) 20:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Blog?
editIs this blog in the reception section even notable enough to be on this wiki page? This is not a biased criticism, I'm really asking. Stabby Joe (talk) 16:33, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not by itself, but Eidos' response makes it notable. --Teancum (talk) 17:43, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not expecting there to be regardless so it doesn't really matter, but as a quick note is there any way to verify that it was indeed from Edios? Stabby Joe (talk) 00:00, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
