Review notes

edit

Some notes made for later:

Polygon - successful distillation of bigger console game merchanics destructoid - feels sloppy and unfinished IGN - retains console brothers mechanics successfully in reduced version gamerevolution - does nothing to advance character or series

Polygon - Impressive game world, expansive levels, unlockable avenues of exploration and hidden secrets IGN = prison environemtn very samey apart from Joker areas, dark and sparse GI - prison setting makes it unsuccessful, destructable walls not highlighted at all unless viewed in special mode leaving players lost, cant be found without thorough scan, even if you know something can be interacted with, cant interact with it until Batman scans it through a process of higlighting an area for several seconds GI - when area is cleared of enemies, remains that way for rest of game despite repeated backtracking desutrctoid- enemies remain gone, backtracking boring gamerevolution - no enemies during backtracking GI - punishing backtracking and scanning gspot - side-on but involves entering vents.doors in the background, causing issues with constantly shifting perspectives gspot = map fails to clearly define location and surroundings gspot - annoying scanning requirement, requires standing still

IGN - combat mostly the same but streamlined GI - hadnles strikes and counters admirably but lacks same intensity, batman can easily keep enemies back with basic attacks, other enemies will not attack and are defeated easily, removing the same bouncing attacks that propagate in main games. Gspot - fluid combat, simple and satisfying, difficultyn with advanced enemy types as combat takes place on two places in 2.5d and batman attacks closest enemiy rather than targeted one destructoid - targeting poor, fighting vlillains on multiple planes gamerevolution - same as above, controls don't feel as tiught of provide as much feedback

Polygon - intelligent touch screen controls

Polygon - Imaginative but poorly explained boss battle sthat lead to frustration and punitive feelinug IGN - simplified boss battles, rely heavily on qte but nice to fight characters not seen in other games Gi - boss battles are the best part, utilizing specific traits of the villains and strategies gspot - normal bosses simple, main bosses punishing, featuring isntant death attacks, loading screens and backtracking to retry

polygon - welcome evolution of series, and focus on exploration

IGN = more like addendum to Arkham Origins than own experience, stripped down

destructoid - poor animations in dialogue scenes, no facial animation IGn - retains art style and smooth animations

IGN - looks slightly better on VITA and easier to use touch screen than 3DS circle pad

IGN - ok addition to arkhamverse but lacks anything to stand out as a batman or metroidvania style game Gi - metroid style game Gamespot - metroid style game gamerevolution = metroid/castlevania

Gi - stealth well designed but rarely tasking

destructoid - thin plot
