History

Battle Mountain has an interesting history. It is one of the few "trailer park" towns in the United States. It was never settled as a town, instead was created at a railroad siding for the convenience of the gold mines in the area. When the railroad was built, the siding called "Battle Mountain" was used as the main loading and unloading for ore from the local mines. A general store called "Lemaires" and a hotel were built on the site. Eventually, a brothel was built on the site, and as the mines would close down, people, instead of building a new house at a new mine site, would put their house on logs, or move it onto a specially built wagon, and move it to the Battle Mountain siding site near the store and hotel. Because of the height of the house (being on the logs or on a wagon, they would slide the house onto a cement and block pad raised to the level of the house.

Should include the followup in the Wash. Post Magazine: Below the Beltway January 6, 2002 www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/18/AR2007121800704.html Tahrlis (talk) 04:59, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

HPV Races

edit

there are several videos of the HPV races at Battle Mountain on YouTube. Here is one [1].--Billymac00 (talk) 05:56, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Does anyone else think the HPV race paragraph(s) could do with a rewrite? The second one reads like a press release, and not a very good one at that. Mr Larrington (talk) 12:37, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
