Are the numbers really correct?

edit

Hi, I am currently reading some books on the Civil War. It seems to me that the Numbers given in this article are not correct, but as I am no expert and do not have an account on the English Wikipedia, I did not want to edit it. Anyway: As an example, Hugh Thomas, 4th British edition, p. 567 gives the number of 12,000 Fighters on the Republican site. The article talks about 40,000. Apart from that the number of 40,000 seems unbelievably high to me... 74.115.160.21 (talk) 15:16, 29 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
