Dear PortugalIV:
The attempts of the French to establish colonial settlements in the seventeenth century in Maranhão and Ceará were part of the "France Equinocial" and not of the "France Antarctique" (these last ones only were serious attempts on south mostly and in the 16th century, altough some "incursions" in the north also happened in the same century, but there were mostly corsary and sole comercial activities). It is true that the Portuguese expelled all of them in both centuries, the Antartique(first) and the Equinocial(in the next century), in military operations in most, from the territory already historically and officially considered Portuguese by the Crown: the Equatorial and the southerner(Antártico) of Brazil. So you have to distinguish between historical events and designations used at the time. Thanks for your work.--LuzoGraal (talk) 15:01, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
