"Field Service In The Civil War" source
editI added the [failed verification] tag to the statement: "it was also a defining moment for the U.S. Marine Corps because the succesful projection of sea power ashore was one of the largest it conducted during the War between the States". I read the cited source ( "Field Service in the Civil War". Marine Corps Gazette. September 1916. Retrieved 2012-06-14) and did not find anything that directly supported the above statement. In the absence of any source that directly supports the statement, the statement may be original research and should be removed. (see {{WP:NOR]] ). Ocalafla (talk) 22:48, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Images
edithelp me - cannot figure out how to add photos to articleBob80q (talk) 01:18, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- The first thing you have to do is upload the images. You can do that at WP:Upload. You can also upload photos that you took and wish to place in the public domain at Wikimedia Commons. The major conern with adding images is that the photo you want to add must be in the public domain, and it is up to the user to demonstrate that. The upload wizards at those page will walk you through what you need to be able to do. Once you've done that, there are a number of ways to display those images on a page. You can find a quick primer on that at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. Billcasey905 (talk) 18:30, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
my first problem is not having the right symbol on my keyboard, do not a vertical line such as is needed to insert information or photos. Its a lower case "L" on some keyboards but I only have l. What should I do?Bob80q (talk) 00:16, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- Try "Shift" + "\" - the key directly above "Enter." That usually works. If not, directly below the "Save page" button when you're editing a page is a drop-down menu that usually shows "Insert." Select "Wiki markup" from that menu, and you can enter the character from the series of markup tags that will appear to the right of the menu. Hope that helps. OK, next problem is that I uploaded some photos to wikimedia but they were deleted and cannot figure out what the problem is. Way too f----- confusing, I am giving up and trying to find someone else who has more understanding of this idiotic systemBob80q (talk) 00:34, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
reliable sources
editBob89q, I reverted your edit for exactly the same reasons as discussed at lenght on The Citadel talk page. No reliable source was presented for the statement on The Citadel page so it was appropriately removed there. That does not mean it is somehow correct to insert it unsourced on this page. If you have a reliable source, please cite to it and then the statement would be appropriately included. Ocalafla (talk) 02:08, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
No Reference Support for Claim
editPlease note: references cited provide no support for "the only occasion when the entire student body of a U.S. college fought in combat" claim. Other schools make this claim and several provide proper reference sourcing.69.1.8.9 (talk) 14:19, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
There are reliable sources given, since when does a non editor decide what is accurate. The only other school that makes this claim is VMI despite sources in their own archives that prove it isn't true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:149:8100:FA60:1D4D:8967:DA4B:B404 (talk) 18:03, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
