I would have daoubts about Soviet victory, Russian forces got stuck in the mountain till december, when Germans had to evacuate themselves because Soviet advances in Romania and Hungary. This means, that the battle regarded as defensive battle was won by Germans, they kept the line. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mądrala (talkcontribs)

The above user has made this edit. I'm not sure if this assessment is proper and what it's based on. Is this just one Wikipedia user's opinion? At the very least, it should be backed by citations. I mean, if we're having a chess game and you forfeit the match, then I don't care if you forfeit because you felt you were defeated, or if you forfeit because your mother called with trouble at home: The moment you forfeit and take your figures and go home, I'm still going to claim victory, and rightly so. I'm skeptical of the motives of the above user for wanting to portray the outcome as something, anything other than a Soviet victory. 31.18.253.188 (talk) 17:59, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Casualties

edit

Our unreferenced infobox gives the casualties as 50k for the Germans and 20k for the Soviets. Polish wiki, which has references but not inline, gives them as 70k for the Germans and 120k for the Soviets, going into more descriptions of how bloody this battle was and how high Soviet casualties were. Based on Slovak National Uprising I'd guess that the numbers mean ~21k dead, over 100k total casualties (wounded, missing). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 00:29, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
