POV bias
editFurther, article suffers from serious POV issues in portraying Houston and Lamar as white and black hat. Houston (in his capacities as general, Indian agent, and president) made many and varied promises to the Cherokees, but (while his drunken good intentions are probable) it's not clear even he ever believed he could actually secure them. As source mentions but article doesn't, Lamar's more vitriolic comments followed a barbaric assault upon the Parkers; as article mentions but doesn't fully explain, the Cordova Rebellion was collusion between the Cherokee and Mexican agents, an existential threat to the Texan Republic. Article simply lies in stating Lamar pursued violent uncompensated eviction as a first course of action (see primary source here; will remove that section.) -LlywelynII (talk) 18:58, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Mostly fixed, though first part of article could go to articles on Cordova Rebellion and Cherokee War (or Texan Cherokee War) leaving this one for the battle itself. -LlywelynII (talk) 22:49, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Battle of the Neches
editIs what TSHA uses and makes more sense. Will move. -LlywelynII (talk) 22:49, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Massacre?
editPrev. editor added category Indian Massacres here. Seems rather inappropriate (it was a pitched battle chosen by the Indians) and belittling both to the Cherokee warriors here and events like Wounded Knee on the other side. -LlywelynII (talk) 22:51, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
