Paul Lorch's Traitors' List
editThis article is only positive about BAR's early response to AIDS. Many sources talk about the nadir of that time being BAR editor Paul Lorch's response to the disease, especially his list of opponents he kept in his desk, crossing a line through the name of the ones that died of AIDS. Lorch, a strong activist for gay liberation, opposed the closing of the bathhouses; the "traitors" were gay men who worked to get the bathhouses closed. The BAR and the San Francisco Sentinel were beholden to their advertisers, says Alexandra Chasin, many of whom were bathhouses and bars.

Some kind of balance should be struck, describing the friction between Lorch and others. Binksternet (talk) 15:59, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
