editI had this as a 'music journal', because its contents were 'serious' and intended as intellectual/academic - i.e. about music, the arts and politics. It is certainly not a 'music magazine'. So what is it? Maybe just a 'newsletter'--Smerus 21:25, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- Magazines exist at all levels of "seriousness". It's like newspapers, they can go from scandal ras to very serious newspapers. An academic journal contains (usually peer-reviewed - although that is not always the case with older publications like this one) academic studies. A newsletter for festival visitors most definitely does not fall into that category, even though it may be good material itself for academic studies. In my eyes, the appropriate category for this one absolutely is magazine, not journal. --Crusio (talk) 21:48, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
According to WP, a newsletter is 'a regularly distributed publication generally about one main topic that is of interest to its subscribers'. Magazines are ' publications, generally published on a regular schedule, containing a variety of articles'. Journals are 'publications issued at stated intervals, such as magazines, or scholarly journals, academic journals, or the record of the transactions of a society'. Whilst none of these WP definitions seem to me ideal, 'newsletter' seems closest to Bayreuther Blätter,so I propose leaving the category accordingly - as it is about 'one main topic', i.e. the Bayreuth Festival and issues arising from it.--Smerus 10:05, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- All current categories with "journals" in their name, exclusively contain academic journals. At the WP Academic Journals and the WP Magazines, "journals" is reserved for academic publications and magazines or newspapers for the rest. This most pertinently does not belong in any "journals" category. I don't see what's wrong with "music magazine" (that category contains many very serious publications), but you could categorize it as Category:Newsletters, or start a new cat "Music newsletters". Personally, "Music magazines" seems the only appropriate one to me. --Crusio (talk) 13:00, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- the problem with'music magazine'is that BB is not about 'music', but about politics, aesthetics and the music of Wagner. And Iam not partial to categories with only one member. So I will let it rest at Category:Newsletters.--Smerus 15:49, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- OK! --Crusio (talk) 17:04, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
