Edward Bazalgette
editThere are various snippets of information contained in other articles (Peter Bazalgette, the Vapors). It would be tidier if these were brought into one place. But is he noteworthy enough for his own article? --RichardVeryard 10:23, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Done, hopefully enough of a seed for an article to crystalise around.KTo288 (talk) 15:04, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Captain Bazalgette, RM
editI don't konw his personal name or might start a stub; see this.Skookum1 (talk) 15:26, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, found his personal name - George Bazalgette - and may get to the stub: see this about the Bazalgette Range, one of a few placenames in BC named after him....Skookum1 (talk) 15:28, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- For the record here's the contents of that link:
"Named c1864 after Captain George Bazalgette, RMLI, commander of the British camp on San Juan Island 1860-67, during the joint occupancy of the island by British and American forces. Early in 1867 Bazalgette was relieved by Captain Delacombe, RMLI, who retained command for the remainer of the occupation [until 1872]. "In looking through the original correspondence, the diplomatic skill with which Bazalgette and Delacombe conducted their business is most striking..... it hardly needs to be said that a very slight error of judgement on their part might have caused serious friction between the two powers, if not war itself." (History of Esquimalt, by Capt. John S. Parry, RN, 1906)."
the reference to San Juan Island is the Pig War, or rather that's the article title (the "war" was over by 1867, the dispute wasn't).Skookum1 (talk) 15:30, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
