According to the text, it was Du Bois. Yet the caption of the two photos states it was Thomas E. Askew for Du Bois.

Unfortunately the documentation on that is not super clear. Askew's studio & archives were destroyed in the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917, adding to the issue. Smith's book (aka footnote 5 in the article) is where Usher is identified in those two photos. In that same book's list of illustrations some of the photos from that same series are credited to Askew, as part of Du Bois' exhibition project. But others, including one of the two Usher photos, are just credited to the project with no specific photographer listed. We could either remove Askew's name or put in an adjective to indicate the doubt in the record. I thought it might be nice to give Askew's article an much-needed inbound link. --Krelnik (talk) 20:30, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
