Perhaps, there is a little inaccuracy: In my version it is not possible to crush a beast between a wall and another beast <>WHH

Another interesting thing: I tried to prevent a hatched beast from moving (not easy but possible), but, surprisingly, it didn't explode.

Note there is a two player mode as well.

Does the source code for this game exist anywhere? One thing that's frustrated me about it when playing 2-player is that the "pull" modifier (spacebar) applies to both people, which can cause all kinds of trouble. Jurgen Hissen 19:33, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Move

I believe the correct title of this game is Beast but seing as how that isn't unique, I think the page should be moved to Beast (ASCII game) or Beast (video game) comments? McKay 15:34, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree on the capitalization, though it's clearly an ASCII game, not a video game. It's in the gray zone, because its graphics are plain ASCII and "things move around" unlike many other ASCII games. For comparison, space invaders is a video game (not using ASCII) so I'd say Beast is an ASCII game. Cyborg 10:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm thinking that ASCII games are a subset of video games. Is that not correct? I'm not trying to discount it's status as an ASCII game, but I think that according to WP:CVG, the "(video game)" is more preferred to other disambiguators. McKay 17:54, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Removed sections

I removed the section "Running the game on a modern PC", which contained just generic info that had no special relevance for this game.

I also removed the External links section, since none of the links fulfilled the conditions of WP:EL. There was a link to the file (WP:NOT), a link to DOSBox, and to a JavaScript remake that isn't even finished yet. — Graf Bobby 05:56, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Revert of history not OR

Regarding the removal of history section. I see user Mckaysalisbury reverted the history I added due to WP:OR although this isn't original research - I received an email from the author, Dan Baker (which I was skeptical to, knowing there's no way to fully prove he is really him). I asked him to prove his identity, which he did by replying to my email (I would have to ask for his permission to provide this email thread copied to this Talk page) and telling me his story, which I consider plausible. Why would anyone go to this length to fake an identity when there's no money involved, and the background (he provided some company background) checks out. Normally I would agree, there's no room for OR in an encyclopedia. However, there should be room for historical facts if they are proven to be correct. What proof will suffice? While I think this is totally cool, and probably true, the fact of the matter is that the information presented is WP:OR, and doesn't qualify as a WP:RS. If you think it does, please read those articles and quote relevant policy saying that the information should be included. In order for this kind of thing to be included in Wikipedia, it needs to be covered by a "reliable source". I work for a local magazine, and due to the information presented by him through you, I think that the two of us (DanB and I) might be close enough for a personal meeting. I'd love to write an article about him. I'm not sure how my editor would feel about such an article, so it might just get blogged. Would you mind sending me his email address so I can contact him about such an interview or something. Now I could write an article, and it might get published, and it might be considered reliable, but then sourcing it in Wikpiedia might be a little of a WP:COI, but I think it's the best course of action (and I'd like to meet him anyway :D) McKay 06:37, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
