Introduction and ongoing edits to Beit Beirut article

edit

Hello,

I am a student working on an ongoing assignment to improve the Wikipedia article on Beit Beirut. During this period, I will be making several edits to enhance the language, expand the content on the building's current usage, and verify the sources for accuracy and diversity. I look forward to any feedback or suggestions from the community as I continue this work.

Thank you!

Creation of Exhibitions and Community Events

edit

I have created a new section titled Exhibitions and Community Events to enhance the organization and comprehensiveness of the article. This new section aims to document significant events and exhibitions related to the Lebanese civil war and its aftermath. To ensure accuracy, readability, and verifiability, the entries have been ordered chronologically, reliable references have been added for each event, and the table structure has been updated to include a source column. Proposed Edits to Historical Context Section

edit

I have renamed the "History" section to "Historical Context" and created four new subheadings: "Construction and Early Years (1924-1975)," "The Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990)," "Post-War Neglect and Preservation Efforts (1990s-2000s)," and "Restoration and Cultural Significance (2003-Present)." The narratives under these subheadings remain unchanged but need some improvement. Additionally, there are broken references that need to be updated, which I intend to address soon. I also plan to add new references to enhance the article's reliability. A.Khamis967 (talk) 12:05, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Update
I have made additional improvements to the sections "Construction and Early Years (1924-1975)" and "The Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990)." Specifically:
Construction and Early Years (1924-1975): Expanded the section to include more detailed historical and architectural context, added references from Brones (2012) and Reder (2020), and provided information about the building's tenants and design features. Removed dead links for better reliability.
The Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990): Enhanced the historical context by detailing the rise of militias, including Hizbollah, and the impact of Israel's 1982 invasion, including the Sabra and Shatila massacre. Added references from Clancy-Smith and Smith (2014) to support these details.
These updates aim to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the Barakat Building’s historical significance and improve the article's overall reliability. I welcome feedback and suggestions from the community. A.Khamis967 (talk) 09:41, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Added image of Beit Beirut

edit

I have added an image of Beit Beirut from Wikimedia Commons to the article. The image provides a clear visual of the building, which enhances the article's content by giving readers a better understanding of its architecture and historical significance. The image is titled "National Museum of Beirut – Beit Beirut 2019" and was uploaded by Onceinawhile.

If there are any concerns or suggestions regarding this addition, please feel free to discuss them here.
