Hmmn what is this area really called? Surely it is Ginninderra?
editDisclarity as to the proper name of the area of housing estates directly surrounding the Belconnen Town Centre Must admit I have wondered about this for a few years now (since the recent inner town centre housing estates were built and named 'Belconnen' perhaps). I lived in Emu Ridge in 1991, then the suburb was Emu Ridge. The entire district however, (as far West as Parkwood, and Macgregor and including on the East, Aranda, Cook, Weetangera and Bruce - a fair stretch of area!) has been known as Belconnen for as far as I can remember it from childhood (say my first memories in 1974 as a four year old). Around when it was built.
Belconnen is the district, no doubt about that. I believe the residential section of the inner area of Belconnen Town Centre - to which this article refers was developed to be known as 'Ginninderra' these days. Real Estate agents however may market properties there as being 'Belconnen'.
Surely ACTPLA could not have been so haphazard as to create two Belconnens? This needs to be checked with the ACTPLA to find the true designated name of the new inner suburbs in the Belconnen Town Centre. I understand many of the town centre residents do refer to it as Belconnen, but others also call it Ginninderra.
I am happy to check this out and make the updates if nobody has objections - it would not mean significantly altering this entry, just changes from the name Belconnen to its proper ACTPLA designation. I think, it is probably Ginninderra -(being inner Belconnen) - will check and advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.127.223.61 (talk) 21:32, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
I did completely agree, but I found I was wrong
editI have been a resident of Belconnen for 44 years (with a few small gaps in between) I remember Florey when it was just a grassed hill with a mini bike track and had a creek with turtles in it (yes, turtles!) I remember Lake Ginninderra when it was a paddock just beginning to filled with water and the Mall under construction in the background.
However I have just found out that ACTPLA seem to have named the entire region from and including Emu ridge to Coulter Drive as "Belconnen" 2617. (Postscrtipt) ; But (see below) I was wrong it always has been Belconnen. I have left this entry here as it has been answered by Grahame below and it may assist others not to make the same error.

- Nonense. I have lived in Canberra since 1954, and lived in Belconnen from 1970 to about 1983. There has always been a Belconnen suburb within the Belconnen district, although it took some years to be developed. There never was a Ginninderra suburb in Belconnen, although the term used to apply to what is now called Gold Creek. There is no point relying on silly names used by real estate agents--Grahame (talk) 23:59, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
Sorry yep, just had a long chat to ACTPLA and you are correct Grahame - I was utterly mistaken. There never has been a suburb of Ginninderra, the area described by this page has always been Belconnen, gazetted as the inner suburb of the District of Belconnen in 1968. I dont know where I (and at least one other) got the idea it was Ginninderra, perhaps there was once some public discussion or suggestion of that name, but it never happened? Anyway, you are correct, and I was mistaken, Belconnen it is, and always has been.
