Changes to article

The problem with this article is that it is about both a USGS-recognized populated place and about a commercial enterprise at the same site. A separate article about the resort doesn't seem necessary, as the settlement and the resort are inextricably entwined. However, we need to be careful that this article doesn't become an advertisement for the resort. I'm also concerned about conflict of interest being involved in some of the recent edits by Tommak95, since the link from one commercial site with good history info was deleted in preference to a now-defunct link to similar info from the current owners of the site. I created this article, so let me be clear that this isn't a case of article "ownership", but I fail to see how this (cited and properly formatted) is an improvement over this (formatting destroyed and more POV and perhaps original research). If anything, the new info not included in my initial version could be added to it, but I don't understand why it was necessary to delete the historic info in my version (though it certainly could be cited better). P.S. The Brainy Geography website is simply the same information as GNIS repackaged. I can add GNIS info as soon as their website is up again (it seems to be down today). This would very much be like Breitenbush Hot Springs, though someone managed to separate that from Breitenbush, Oregon. I suspect that is ultimately the fate of this article: to be split, as silly as that seems. —EncMstr (talk) 22:39, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

I may have been the one who did that, I haven't looked in a while, but I thought about Breitenbush in relation to this article. It's true they are similar, since at both places the fame of the hot springs eclipses the fame of the settlement, but with Breitenbush, the resort forms a community of its own, and because of the counterculture aspect, I think it's orders of magnitude more notable on its own than Belknap. There are enough of these places in Oregon that date to the late 19th and early 20th centuries that it might be nice to start a Historic hot springs and seaside resorts in Oregon article.
