Policy

It would be useful to include some information or quotations on political ideology or policy, especially as he is a current candidate. Fearwig 22:49, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Because politicians proclaim their desire for public service, it would be interesting to know how Cardin was able to avoid the draft. He earned his J.D. in 1967, as the Vietnam War draft was blazing hot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.49.22.149 (talk) 15:35, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

2006 Election

According to CNN, Cardin now only has 48% of the vote compared to 50% for the Republican candidate. The area about him winning in the article is clearly extremely premature.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.184.58.130 (talkcontribs) 04:22, November 8, 2006 (UTC)

It would also be nice to see something about his campaign stealing Michael Steele's credit report. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 151.205.137.241 (talkcontribs) 00:00, November 11, 2006 (UTC)
I believe that is in the campaign article; it doesn't belong in the bio article. (And I believe it wasn't his campaign, technically speaking, that did it - it was the DNC or similar.) John Broughton | Talk 16:58, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Interest group ratings

The end of the section on Cardin in the House of Representatives states, "He has also received scores of 100 percent from the League of Conservation Voters and NAACP indicating stances that are in favor of environmental protection and civil rights." The interpretation is rather bold. The rating directly only indicates that perception by those two organizations. This is also only supported by a citation of Cardin's website. I would suggest revising the sentence to be more explicit.162.83.50.191 (talk) 23:30, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Magnitsky Act

There needs to be a paragraph linking Ben Cardin with the Magnitsky Act, a Senate bill Cardin co-sponsored with John McCain.

Bogus reference on Cardin identifying as "an ardent Zionist"

The article contains the claim that "Cardin identifies as an ardent Zionist." The citation goes to a long blog post that is not about Cardin and that mentions him only briefly. The blogger, Philip Weiss writes:

"Today Senator Ben Cardin, who identifies as an ardent Zionist, expressed the same concern at a hearing. 'I don’t see how Israel can remain Jewish and democratic' with a one-state outcome, he said. “The demographics are unambiguous in this regard.'"

That is the entirety of the reference's discussion of Cardin. As you can see, Cardin does not identify anywhere in it as a Zionist, ardent or otherwise. That is the assertion of the *blogger*, who seems to be a political critic of Cardin's. If anything, Cardin is criticizing the current course of the Israeli government in the brief quote.

Given that the reference does not support the assertion it serves as the sole citation for, the "ardent Zionist" line ought to be deleted. (Unless an actual quote of Cardin identifying as a Zionist can be found, in which case that should be the citation, not this blog post and its unsubstantiated claim.)

I thought this was self-evident to anyone who followed the link, but as one editor seems confused as to the problem, I have explained it here. I hope we can now all agree to either remove or improve this citation.

Done. Thank you for explaining your reasoning. Upon further consideration, and in particular after reading Wikipedia's Mondoweiss and Philip Weiss pages, I am persuaded that this is indeed a prejudiced source and that the comment about Senator Cardin should be removed. Accordingly, I have reverted my most recent edit, which has the effect of reinstating your removal. KalHolmann (talk) 00:44, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about my initial reasoning for the revision. I don't usually edit, just read! Appreciate the change to explain my thinking. Now, back to lurking! --81.92.207.94 (talk) 00:50, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
