Comma after name but before Jr. & Sr.

Q. John Smith Jr. or John Smith, Jr.? John Smith III or John Smith, III?

A. Traditionally, it would be John Smith, Jr., and John Smith III. But beginning with the fourteenth edition of The Chicago Manual of Style (1993), the recommendation is to use no commas in either case (see paragraph 6.49 of the fifteenth edition):

• John Smith Jr.

But please note that within text, if you decide to use the more traditional comma before Jr. or Sr., the function of the comma is to set off these abbreviations, so an additional comma is needed after the abbreviation if the sentence continues (as in my first sentence above).

Jr., Sr., I, and II

Use only with full name. Commas are no longer required around Jr. and Sr. If commas are used, however, they should be both before and after.

• Iowa State

A comma before the Jr. or Sr. in a proper name is not necessary: "Martin Luther King Jr."

As a general rule, spell out numbers from one through nine. Use numerals for all others.

There are 100 U.S. senators from 50 states.

In general, numbers 10 and higher appear as numerals; nine and lower are written out. There are exceptions: elements of time, distance, ratios, and percentages always appear as numerals, unless at the start of a sentence. Use a percentage sign unless at the start of a sentence: It was chosen by 6% of the respondents. But: Six percent chose Wheaties.

Osage vs. Cherokee

Can you provide a citation for the Cherokee heritage? It doesn't match my own information, but neither of us has posted a citation to back up the point. I'm willing to concede if you've got a cite, as I can't begin to remember where mine is without more digging than I've got time for. But as it's a point of disagreement, I hope you'll agree that a real citation is necessary. I'm a Cherokee and have been unable to find his family on the Dawes rolls. Doesn't mean I'm right, but add that to his being born on the Osage rez and it's certainly a disputable point. Monkeyzpop (talk) 02:40, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

The old photo, which has been taken of Commons was a PR one too so how is the still for the Wild Bunch OK? How about cropping Cary and Bond out the one of him with the horse. ,Overagainst (talk) 14:14, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Ben in WWII

Can anyone find a good source for him serving or not serving in WWII? He'd have been of prime military age. On his IMDB page it says he was a Marine on Guadalcanal but I'm not sure I trust IMDB. The fact that Ben Johnson is a common name doesn't help. MisawaSakura (talk) 14:52, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
