Monument to Ó Néill

edit

Why, in a part of Ireland which is absolutely obsessed (that is, of course, an understatement) with placing war memorials everywhere, is there not a single monument to Ó Néill and company in Benburb? We went to Benburb some years ago on a visit to Irish historical sites and there was absolutely nothing there, except a vague "over there somewhere" response we received from an elderly nationalist lady who was more interested in telling us how the Catholic Church got the return of the Servite Priory in Benburb. Personally, I think war monuments are tribal and backward, and their proliferation sums up the cultural mentalities, but when a battle that is easily one of the three most important in Irish history does not have one, there is clearly something else at work. 86.42.101.51 (talk) 19:35, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
