Divine Praises?

edit

The Divine Praises are not part of the rite of Benediction. Their use is simply a common custom, and their position varies from place to place. Quite often they are recited after the act of benedivction, but they are just as often recited before the Tantum ergo as a conclusion to the adoration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fiddleback (talkcontribs) 14:49, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

They may or may not be an essential part of the rite (neither, I understand, is the O Salutaris) but they are, in my experience, a universal one - and always said after the Benediction. Carolynparrishfan (talk) 15:03, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
They are by no means universal in the RC Church. And where they occur they often take place before the Tantum Ergo as part of the devotions.82.36.89.155 (talk) 14:47, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Benediction of the Blessed SacramentBenediction with the Blessed Sacrament – as stated in the lede: "more properly Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament" - indeed, I agree that it is more proper, so why does this article remain at the less-accurate title? Only one of the cited sources uses either term, and that source (Hardon) agrees to properly use "with". "Benediction of" implies that the blessing is going the opposite way, which may be true, but the whole idea is that the people receive a blessing "with" its use. 2600:8800:1880:91E:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 06:31, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament" is not an official name, and in fact seems to get no Google hits either. "Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction" is used in hymnals and on the US Bishops' site. Sparafucil (talk) 08:17, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
That would actually be the Rite of Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction, which I shall accept as a possibility, as it is the officially-codified English name for the Rite. 2600:8800:1880:91E:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 08:31, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's unnecessary to add "Rite of" to every article and wouldn't make it any easier for readers to find Baptism, Confirmation in the Catholic Church &c. What ought to be researched is whether [Ro]EE&B has wider currency than USCCB and GIA Press of Chicago., the English version of .va sites apparently not having an international term. We should also beware of WP:CONTENTFORKING in choosing a recognizable name: there's already Eucharist_in_the_Catholic_Church#Adoration_and_Benediction_outside_of_the_Liturgy and Eucharistic adoration, the last a plausible merge target candidate. Sparafucil (talk) 05:54, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
In the meantime I've learned that Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament is in fact one official name. Sparafucil (talk) 04:56, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

I fixed the page title. Puppygnu (talk) 06:28, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

It may seem less "proper" but "Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament" is the common name. Usage is not always logical. Jonathunder (talk) 13:50, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
