American Revolution section
editThis section is very poorly written. It begins in the middle of the Andre-Arnold affair, then goes back to the beginning, despite the fact that Tallmadge had only a tangential part in the entire operation. This section needs to be revised and most of it eleiminated, as it is about Andre, Arnold, Jameson, and Allen, and not Tallmadge.
More information about operations Tallmadge actually *was* involved in would be far more appropriate here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.81.129.193 (talk) 16:50, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
is back, ladies and gentlemen!
editIt appears Dilidor's recent dressing-down has not had any lasting effect. What a shame. Editor Dilidor believes, incorrectly, that it is not necessary to close parenthetical commas enclosing a place or date. So far, Dilidor has produced not a single authority supporting this position. I, in contrast, have directed Dilidor to Wikipedia's clear and unequivocal Manual of Style, which contains sections dedicated to precisely Dilidor's error, at MOS:GEOCOMMA and MOS:DATECOMMA. These sections are designed to settle the disagreement I am having with Dilidor. They are written simply and clearly so as to leave no room for dispute; this should tell us something about how common the error is, and about how unambiguously it is an error.
I understand Dilidor believes the Manual of Style (and presumably all such documents, since in my admittedly cursory survey of style guides I have yet to find one that disagrees) is wrong. I have invited Dilidor to undertake the heroic effort of altering the Manual of Style. I will of course oppose Dilidor, should he or she choose to attempt it; but in any case I find it easy to promise I will adhere to the guidelines. I wonder why Dilidor cannot do the same?
So begins another tedious struggle over a comma. The outcome is not in doubt. The only question is whether Dilidor will take this latest opportunity to accept correction, or will go on claiming, on the strength of ... some private sybil, I suppose, the right to disregard the MOS whenever it suits. Or has Dilidor perhaps finally come up with some better argument than "Because I say so"?

- Do not call out other editors in headers. Your sarcasm and snide tone are neither good faith nor cordial, and therefore do not open any form of dialogue. —Dilidor (talk) 17:33, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Well, all right, Dilidor, all right. I get it. You think you're going to win the argument on civility grounds. I think that is unlikely. Care to comment on the actual issue? I invite dialogue, Dilidor; in fact, I implore you to make your case, at long last. Here is my case:
- MOS:GEOCOMMA
- MOS:DATECOMMA
- And here it is, still more concisely: Wikipedia:Basic copyediting#Parenthetical comma

- @Regulov: I've blocked Dilidor for 24 hours for repeatedly violating the guidance in the Manual of Style and for breach of the fourth pillar. Please feel free to bring the article back to compliance. I'll apply further sanctions if that doesn't prevent future disruption. --RexxS (talk) 20:10, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- @RexxS: Kindly show me where I have breached the Fourth Pillar which states "Wikipedia's editors should treat each other with respect and civility". If anyone has done so here, it is Regulov in approaching a discussion with snarky sarcasm and in calling me out by name in the subsection header. Indeed, that in itself can be construed as a personal attack, which is why I removed my name from the header. I feel that you have grossly misapplied this principle. —Dilidor (talk) 14:52, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Overkill
editWhile installing an image of Tallmage's signature in the infobox, I checked into the Talk page here, and wow, I was sorta amazed at what went down here. It's a bit disappointing that fellow editors have locked horns over how to use a comma. A #&#%# comma! On the one hand, Dilidore should have acquiesced to the guidelines about comma usage, but to block this editor, who didn't exceed the 3RR, and esp since the other editor plastered his name on a billboard ie. the section title, and went on at length in a mocking tone, is a bit overkill. Disappointed. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 05:17, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Gwillhickers: Thank you for speaking up. Evidenly RexxS blocked me because he disapproved of one of my edit summaries. I would like to report this person for abuse of authority, which this clearly is, but I don't know how to do that. Do you know how one goes about reporting an abusive admin? —Dilidor (talk) 12:08, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Gwillhickers: I am happy to be corrected, but I believe Dilidor is currently under at least one revert restriction. This is not the first time Dilidor has been directed to MOS:GEOCOMMA; Dilidor is perfectly well aware of the policy, and persists in reverting. The reason it looks like overkill to you is that as far as you can tell this is the first time anything like this has happened; but if every time it happens we act like it's the first time it's happened—well, see for yourself: the behaviour does not change.
