Incorrect reservoir volume
editThe reservoir volume figure looks wrong.
Pickrill and Irwin (1986) quote the following:
- area = 94 km2
- mean bulk residency time = 67 days
- mean annual inflow = 323 m3/s
which implies:
- lake volume = 1869e6 m3
- average depth = 19.9 m

- retrieved : 28-Jan-2011
quote the following:
- Hydro_Max_m3_Storage = 74 (the 10^6 is part missing on their figure, gosh!)
- Typical_Annual_GWh = 2500
The 74e6 m3 figure is almost certainly correct. The current 12.5e6 m3, also on Meridian publicity, is almost certainly wrong. The NZEA figure gives 61 days and 0.80m of top layer "storage" whereas the Meridian figure gives 10 days and 0.17m.
I haven't time to make the changes and check the english .. sorry -- Robbiemorrison (talk) 19:28, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- This problem is compounded by the fact that the text refers to 12.5 x 106cu.m., whereas the infobox says 1.25 cu.km - which is 12.5 x 108 cu.m. One or the other is out by a couple of powers of 10. Grutness...wha? 13:01, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Region
editThe dam is currently in the Canterbury Region, according to the boundary shapefile from Statistics New Zealand[1] (which LINZ refers to[2]). The boundary follows the Waitaki for about 20 km inland from the sea to Goulding Rd, afterwards ridgelines of mountain ranges (including Hawkdun) on the southwest side of the river. Benmore is about 23 km from Otago, at the closest point. XLerate (talk) 06:37, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
