Etymology

edit

Once again the etymology of the name is extremely simplified. For sure Bennet(t) is from Latin Benedictus, but not directly because Benedict > Bennet in English is phonetically impossible. In English [d] and [c] would not have entirely disappeared. The 12th century language near English in England, where lenition is total is Anglo-Norman. So is Bennet obviously Anglo-Norman.Nortmannus (talk) 10:11, 5 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hatnote

edit

"Other uses" hatnote (recently deleted) is necessary to link with (e.g.) place names etc - unless article is to be merged with Bennett. --Soundofmusicals (talk) 16:27, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've put the alternative spellings into the lead. The hatnote is not required to point to the disambiguation page because this article is at Bennett (name) and not Bennett (per WP:NAMB). Having said that, a merge of Bennett (name) and Bennet (surname) is a good idea. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:07, 26 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
