Talk:Bentley 3 Litre

Unhelpful statement

edit

Thumbnails have been added that show examples of Red Label and Blue Label versions of the 3 Litre. I suppose this is useful if difference between the types can be seen clearly in the photographs. However, text has also been added saying "Currently no image of a green label car is available." This is not useful, as it does not inform the reader about the subject, but only informs him or her of our shortcomings, which he or she did not visit the article to read about. I have therefore blanked the statement; it has been unblanked and I have blanked it again. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 20:41, 22 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. More useful would be to give the compression ratio for the Blue Label, and best of all, the origins of these terms. If Bentley offered any colour for any car, how did the association with state of tune come about? Andy Dingley (talk) 21:18, 22 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Aha, the pair are feeling the strain, a combined appearance, the same hymn sheet, a marriage of true minds indeed! Sorry I wasn't watching when you were here. Eddaido (talk) 02:50, 23 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oh, don't be such a perennial WP:DICK. You seem to be knowledgable about Bentley, more so than I've ever studied them, so how about just making some articles better? Whatever we can say about the labels, it doesn't seem to be something that's conveyed by external photos. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:45, 23 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Engineering

edit

This section is currently totally unreferenced but might on the whole be accurate except I suspect for the ONE cited item — that Gallop designed the engine.

Was this not the principal occupation of a Mr W O Bentley? I am unable to access the cited, clearly poor, source. Eddaido (talk) 00:18, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

How were the valves driven?

edit

Does anyone know how the valves were driven? Given its SOHC and pent-roof combustion chambers, there had to be something like rocker arms for at least some of the valves; they couldn't all be driven directly from tappets, as with DOHC. I would suspect roller tappets, as on later SOHC Ferrari engines. BMJ-pdx (talk) 04:20, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
