Requested move
editNote:proponent didn't put info about move on Wikipedia:Requested moves here, as he or she should have done. Proposed moving Bergenshus to replace existing article about a different Bergenhus, apparently intending to just discard the other info.
Oppose. If you can in fact establish a spelling error (but this existed in a day of unstandardized spellings which often are at variance with the spellings in either flavor of modern Norwegian, which don't always agree with each other), since there is already a different article under the title Bergenhus proposed to be moved to, and since that deals with something current, put some disambiguation into the title. Make it Bergenhus (fortress) or something like that if you can in fact establish that that should be the proper spelling, and not Bergenshuus (which was the common spelling of the old amts (now Hordaland fylke). Additional comments
editCan you establish "correct" spellings in both bokmål and nynorsk? or English? What evidence do you have? Gene Nygaard 23:06, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Probably the best would be to rename this article Bergenhus Fortress, its English name, and then link it and add a couple of sentences to the explanation where it is already mentioned under Bergenhus. Then take the automatically created redirect here at Bergenshus and change it to redirect to Bergenhus rather than to Bergenhus Fortress. Since it isn't directly on point, maybe also a redirect from Søndre Bergenhus and Søndre Bergenshuus to Hordaland, and from Nordre Bergenhus and Nordre Bergenshuus to Sogn og Fjordane. Apologies and responses: I proposed the move. I am a newbie, and must apologise for a couple of mistakes - I put the info about the move on Talk:Bergenhus instead of here as I should have done. And I see now that it is probably better to establish a new page called Bergenhus fortress. It wasn't my intention to discard the original info, I envisaged a disambiguation page, but probably didn't make this clear enough.
As for establishing a spelling error: The fortress is also current, exists still today, and its correct standardised spelling can be found on its webpage, http://www.nasjonalefestningsverk.no/Bergenhus/ (in Norwegian), the tourist-site http://www.visitbergen.com/default.asp?sp=GB&layout=10&members=on&pt=69&bhcp=1, etc. Bergenshuus was not the common spelling of the old amts. It appears occasionally, but only in the really old days. In the 19th century after spelling had been standardised, it was Bergenhuus, later changed again to Bergenhus. For what it's worth, googling gives 21 Bergenshuus, 1740 Bergenhuus and 71400 Bergenhus. There is no difference between Nynorsk and Bokmål here. Bergenhus is a name, and names don't change their spelling between bokmål and nynorsk. Can't really think of how to prove that, but I am a nynorsk user, and hope you will take my word for it. - I think you are right about this name, and can probably now do it yourself though since it was listed I'm not sure what the proper protocol is. But of course there is one glaring example which shows that proper names can vary between nynorsk and bokmål; one seen on Norwegian postage stamps, for example: Noreg and Norge. I can give you others, from the farm names I'm familiar with. Gene Nygaard 17:25, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, granted. And in very conservative nynorsk, you can find Sverike rather than Sverige for Sweden as well. These are the exceptions that confirm the rule though - different spellings of farm names have to do with other factors than correct present-day nynorsk or bokmål, they might have been written very differently at different points in time. (Barend 17:33, 17 November 2005 (UTC))
- I am moving the page to Bergenhus fortress (Barend 18:58, 29 November 2005 (UTC))
Merger proposal
editI'm proposing a merger of the articles Haakon's Hall and Rosenkrantz Tower into this article. Both buildings are part of the fortress, and the three articles cover much of the same topics. As all three are quite short, and unlikely to grow a lot without starting to repeat what is said in the two other articles, it would make sense to merge them into this article. --Aqwis 00:09, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
- Since noone has replied, i'm going to merge the articles now. --Aqwis 19:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
