New Zealand connection?
editWhy is it relevant that there are less than 300 purebred sows in New Zealand? Presumably, the majority of pigs are in Britain there 500 in fishland.-gadfium 23:38, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- I could be wrong, but know I am right, but I could be wrong, but I think that the continued survival of some rare breeds like this one rely on breeding in places like Australia and NZ. I know that some once popular English pig breeds no longer exist in their country of origin. I can't remember where I read this, so I won't update the article page. Origins
editvandalism, perhaps just a nonsensical statement
"Today's animals descend from the herd maintained by the House of Windsor 300 years ago.[2]"
makes no sense. is it vandalism ?Eregli bob (talk) 15:27, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know about vandalism, perhaps just ignorance on the original contributers part?
I have amended the section to better describe the area of origin, & removed the 'Windsor' reference, as it is inaccurate. If anyone knows more about the Monarchy's role in breeding Berkshire pigs for 300 years, please edit accordingly. (The House of Windsor descends from the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas/Hanoverians, but didn't adopt the name until 1917, because of anti-German sentiment during the 1st World War).
