Redirect to Eric Berne of Bern Switzerland?
editBärn is the Swiss spelling of the city. Bern is the english translated spelling and used in the article title. Berne is the French spelling referenced in the article.
A French translation (not listed in a title) shouldn't trump an article of a famous person with the name in it such as Eric Berne. Wiki-psyc (talk) 16:48, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, our article Bern used to be called Berne not long ago because that is the traditional name in English for the city, much like Firenze is called Florence in English. This is seen in names like e.g. the Berne Convention. Per our guideline, WP:POFR, redirects exist mainly to guide the reader from alternative names. On the other hand, redirecting from a last name is not the intended purpose of redirects, if only because several people can share a last name. That is what disambiguation pages are here for. What we can do is to install a Wikipedia:Hatnote at Bern to guide readers who arrive from Berne to Berne (disambiguation), and this already exists: "For other articles entitled Bern or Berne, see Bern (disambiguation)." No need to do anything. I recommend that you gain a bit of Wikipedia editing experience before fiddling with the admittedly somewhat complicated naming and redirecting practices.
