I am not a significant author on this page, but at some time I have made a change, and so it's on my watchlist. I note immediately, from a simple read of the listed source, that:

This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domain: Jewish Encyclopedia. 1901–1906.

I would suggest that the on-line Jewish Encyclopaedia site that is the source of the complaint has taken its text from the same source. I hope that helps. Kbthompson 12:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, the paragraph in question does seem to come from the JE 1906 - good catch (although it would be nice if JewishEncyclopedia.com actually footnoted the source of that particular paragraph...).
How does one attribute a single paragraph that is lifted (hint, hint). An example I could use as a model for similar situations in the future would be a great help. Thanks, Egfrank 12:42, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
On that website it provides image views of the original pages, I would cite as Jewish Encyclopaedia (1906) pp. 133-4; I like to put in references as I go, so I'd do as an inline ref. Now we have to wait for an admin? Kbthompson 12:46, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Lets go - I feel much better about an inline citation as well. Once its in place can we just remove the template and the listing? Egfrank 12:49, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
[Conflict]:::There's a fundamental problem with web sites that come to claim 'ownership' of copy right free material. The text is cf, but any comment they provide, and even possibly the images are not! Also, if they don't attribute their source well, then they cause problems like this. Kbthompson 12:52, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think the instructions say we can't modify the page, or remove the notice until an admin has reviewed this conversation and accepted what we now say is true. Kbthompson 12:52, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK - thanks for handholding me through this. Egfrank 12:59, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Changed home website URL?

edit

I'm a real newbie here so please excuse me if I have transgressed any Wikipedia rules/conventions. My interest is that I used to work near BM, have created a Tripadvisor entry for the Bevis Marks Synagogue and was having another look at Wikipedia when I noticed that the main website URL for Bevis Marks Synagogue in the Wikipedia entry http://www.sandp.org/ does not seem to work. The website that I think is the current "official" one is at http://www.bevismarks.org.uk/ . As an aside, readers here might also be interested in this site which has a little additional information about the Bevis Marks Synagogue: http://www.ottolenghi.org/bevis-marks.htm

Agreed. The home page for the sandp site no longer works, though some of the other pages are still available. Nor (for some time) has the spanishandportuguese.net site. The bevismarks.org.uk site is still under construction, and there appears to be no functioning site for the Spanish and Portuguese community in general (there is one for Wembley). We should therefore omit this link altogether until the situation is clarified, and I have now removed it. --62.25.109.197 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 11:42, 11 February 2009 (UTC).Reply

Rabbi Nathan Asmoucha

edit

Just to note that according to the BBC article Rabbi quits job over City protest in today's news, Nathan has stood down from the position.163.1.147.64 (talk) 12:43, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Will someone who understands these things please edit 'Lodno' and 'ogf' in the Sources section?
