Tone

edit

It seems that this article takes a fairly dismissive tone toward the subject, including "the Chicago press chronicled their mundane social activities," etc. Is such a tone appropriate?

Certainly, the Big Four were not the most important social phenomenon going on in the midwest at the time, but is this the kind of editorial tone we should be taking? 2601:84:8701:8FB0:F436:25:167C:A838 (talk) 13:22, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

You are misinterpreting the sentence. Chicago's population circa the 1910s was 2.4 million people. Despite the fact that the daily events in Chicago included race riots, terrorist bombings, and mass murder, the Chicago press nonetheless reported the mundane social activities of the Big Four debutantes on their front pages. It is precisely the fact that such activities were "mundane" which is a testament to the cultural power of the Big Four as the daughters of Chicago's wealthiest families. — Flask (talk) 23:44, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
