Questioning sources

On 11 January 2009, a short-term IP editor introduced the source "W. Michael Reisman et al., "International Law in Comparative Perspective" (2004), p. 460". It looks innocuous and has stood for nearly 12 years in WP. When I sought to check it, I could find no such book by Reisman et al. I found a book of the title "International Law in Comparative Perspective" at Google Books, but by a different author, William Elliott Butler, limited to 315 pages and containing no searchable content to verify the relevant WP content. How can such a mistake happen and not be picked up for nearly 12 years? Personally, I'll now commit to spending more time checking citations. The long-term reputation of our project might depend on many of us doing the same. Bjenks (talk) 07:16, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
