Boxing queries
edit- Middleweight?
- My source says welterweight.
- ..and was undefeated in 28 contests when he was forced to give it up after being hit on the head in the nets at cricket practice.
- My source says he quit boxing in disgust after he was ordered to throw a 12-round match that he was expected to win.
My source is his obituary in The Age of 1 December 2004 (p. 16). Comments? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 23:59, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- This sort of contradiction is the norm for players of this era. His Wisden obituary states the latter, ESPNcricinfo say both. Contemporary sources would be most useful to help find out which is more accurate. A quick look around shows me that welterweight is almost certainly the right one, that is far more commonly used than middleweight. The Guardian obit supports The Age with regards to his reasons for quitting, and includes quotes from Alley, though David Foot the author, is known for putting words into people's mouths. I suspect The Age is right. Harrias talk 08:23, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
