Initial Article Creation (COI Explained)

edit

I would like for an article to exist for Bill McCloud. But as an immediate family member, I'm aware of the obvious conflict of interest. I approached several others about creating an article without any progress. I next looked into having a paid Wikipedia content creator make an article. But even then, since I would be paying someone to create the article, a COI would still exist. (And it was quite costly)

My goal is to create an article base, a starting point with basic information including some sources and citations. From here, hopefully, others without a COI would be more willing to continue the article.

It is not my intention to be the sole contributor to this article. And the only information I contribute will be clearly cited. Neojin9 (talk) 19:54, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Infobox Picture

edit

I would like to have an Infobox Picture included with the article. But I'm having difficulty navigating the image upload process and copyright identification. I think a good photo to use would be the Author Photo from the back of Bill McCloud's book The Smell of the Light: Vietnam, 1968-1969. The image was taken by Tim Bonea, used in the book published by The Balkan Press, but taken for Bill McCloud so I'm not sure who holds the copyright in this instance. Or if the image is considered Free Use since the image is used in numerous places online, such as articles regarding Mr. McCloud or websites selling his books. Here is a link to a high quality version of the photo https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41j2vW6HfLL.jpg. As a newer editor I'm not able to upload Free Use images to Wikipedia English, and can't upload it to Wikipedia Commons since I don't know the copyright status. Any help would be appreciated. If there are photos that you have taken with your own camera, you can upload those to commons. Jay (talk) 07:03, 11 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Additional Article Found to Reference, Adds to Notability Determination

edit

I found a newspaper article from the Los Angeles Times written about Bill McCloud dated October 23, 1988. Having an additional reference from a nationally recognized news source should further help to determine notability. I'm combing through the newspaper article trying to find the most relevant parts to add to this Article.

I've now been able to locate references across the nation: The Los Angeles Times, The Seattle Times, The Oklahoman, The Washington Post, and the American Heritage magazine. Neojin9 (talk) 18:52, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

There's also an article in the USA Today newspaper. I haven't been able to locate the article, but did find a source that mentioned the article.Neojin9 (talk) 18:59, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
