Philos
editGot rid of the Philippines section because it seems he has not moved to the Philippines, and additionally - why is it even important he moved to the Philippines? His activism is what is important, not his place of abode.
Direct from Individual
editBill Whatcott wrote me a note correcting some of the information in the wikipedia. He says:
1. I did not become a nurse after spending time in a group home. I became a nurse after spending 41/2 years in minimum, medium and maximum security prisons. Also Humber College did not grant me my license, that is the Ontario College of Nurses. I graduated from Humber College and received a Diploma in Practical Nursing with honours.
2. The flyer I distributed on Islam did not show a picture of a decapitated Indonesian boy. The flyer showed a photograph of a decapitated 13 year old Indonesian girl.
3. My activism has led to 6 arrests only in Saskatchewan. I've been arrested also in the United States and approximately 20 times in Ontario where they have successfully convicted me twice for violating the bubble zone around Dr. Scott's and Dr. Buriani's abortuaries in Toronto. Once I actually did violate the injunction at Scott's by praying on the sidewalk outside of the clinic and holding a small life chain sign. I was supposed to be sixty feet from the abortuary but on Sept 2/ 1994, I chose to stand, pray and hold a sign only 6 feet from the abortuary property. I never did set foot on abortuary property but stood and prayed on the public sidewalk. For that "crime" I was sentenced to 6 months in prison. The second time "I doubt Wikipedia would ever acknowledge this," however for the sake of historical accuracy they should at least say "Bill Whatcott maintains" the Toronto police at 51 Division wanted to get me off the street because I was showing graphic abortion signs. I was standing well out of the no protest bubble zone with my graphic signs and was breaking no laws. Indeed I had witnesses testify to this in court. None the less the police who arrested me from 51 Division (a police division caught in multiple scandals, lies and cases of illegal activity over the years) lied under oath and said I was in the bubble zone when I wasn't. The judge chose to believe them over my witness' testimony and my own testimony and for that alleged "crime" I was sentenced to 15 days in the Don Jail and given 18 months probation.
4. I was not suspended by the Saskatchewan Licensed Practical Nurses for 45 days only. I was suspended for 45 days minimum and indefinitely until I pay a fifteen thousand dollar fine. (I have now been suspended for about 3 years) I was not found to have intimidated patients and staff. I was found to have defamed the good name of Regina Planned Parenthood by calling them "baby killers," "sexually immoral" and accused them of spreading HIV with their corrupt and far from fail proof promiscuous approach to teaching young people about "safe sex."
5. I did not place 9th in the Ontario Provincial Election in 1999 when I ran in Toronto's homosexual district for the Family Coalition Party. I placed 8th...... ____
The above material about the note is entirely unsourced and hearsay. Why is it even here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.23.226.135 (talk) 04:47, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
Fixing up this article
edit- I've removed the reference to 'Elizabeth' among other edits to factual errors on the article. Yes, you can revert from NPOV, but you have to specify where the edit is a violation of the NPOV policy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Benkenobi18 (talk • contribs) 03:40, August 21, 2007 (UTC).
- I've blanked the page as Bill Whatcott has requested that the page be removed as it is libellous. :) I warned you guys. I removed the Homophobia tag for a reason. He doesn't mind it up , just without the 'homophobia' tag.Benkenobi18 15:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I think this may be a valid citation for the election results: http://results.elections.on.ca/results/1999_results/valid_votes.jsp?e_code=37&rec=444&district=&district_code=0&rec-page=10&flag=E&layout=G — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.210.169.87 (talk) 19:24, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- Why stop there? This entire article is written negative POV for him. Sniffing glue as the bio? Get rid of it. It's irrelevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.23.226.135 (talk) 04:47, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
Gender of the subject of whatcott's flyer
edit- Bill Whatcott's flyer shows a beheaded indonesian girl. Yes the source does not say that but if you want to see his flyer, the actual flyer shows a girl and not a boy. Would it be ok to post the flyer link in the article if we continue to have discussion over the factual accuracy of his flyers? Benkenobi18 04:54, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Prison stay, length and description
edit- Bill Whatcott again can confirm that he stayed in prison for that length of time. If requested I can have him confirm the statement. Again it isn't in the article but affirmed by Bill himself. Benkenobi18 04:57, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, while this may seem dumb to you, wikipedia cannot be the first place to publish information. This is the heart of no original research. What printed source can I turn to to verify these claims? Editors of wikipedia are not fact checkers, and they should not be expected to contact individuals in order to verify facts. If the newspapers got it wrong, then where is their errata? This isn't an issue of us publishing inaccurate facts. This is a case of our sources not being as specific as possible. We all know that girls and boys are both children, so there is nothing inaccurate in calling a girl a "child". 4 and a half years is "some time", so again, we are not being inaccurate. What is problematic is making a direct claim that someone spent 4.5 years in prison, with a citation following that claim, yet that exact number is NO WHERE to be found in the citation. The recent changes make it appear as if the cited sources say one thing, when actually do say nothing of the sort. This is a clear form of misleading the reader. Please, if you want to insert this content, you need to CITE a source for it, because the current sources DO NOT say these things. I hope you understand. (Note, personal correspondences such as e-mails with the subject in question are not considered WP:RS because they cannot be verified. Does Bill Whatcott have an official biography online that states these things? That may be a good place to start).-Andrew c [talk] 13:37, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with you here. The flyers are published and can be referenced. I am not trying to say that the reporters themselves are inaccurate, just that the statement can be improved from where they are now. I just wanted to find a way to satisfy Wikipedia's requirements without violating NOR and at the same time improving the article. I will get Bill to post his biography online so we can improve this article here. Thank you sir. Benkenobi18 21:41, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- http://takebackcanada.com/whatcott.html This is the source of the flyer. As you can see the flyer on Islam refers to a beheaded indonesian girl. The referencing has now been fixed.Benkenobi18 21:53, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
First, great work on finding a source for the girl thing (though I was caught off guard by the graphic imagery). Next, why did you change the way the references are formatted? There is no reason to have 3 different references saying the exact same thing. If a single article is the source for multiple statements, we can cite that same article without having to repeat the citation. I'm going to revert the citation change because it save article space and is less for our users to download. I apologize if there was a reason for that change that I missed. -Andrew c [talk] 22:38, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- The old numbers didn't match up properly! You've kept my change though. Thank you. Benkenobi18 21:58, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Do the numbers match up now? I know the numbers are not going to be necessarily chronologically (because we cite #1 three times and we cite #2 three times), but if you click on each number, does it take you to the correct citation? -Andrew c [talk] 22:47, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- It looks good. Thank you. Benkenobi18 19:22, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
