Featured On...
There's a song by the band Blindside, Billy is featured on the song Hurray It's L.A. . I was wondering why that isn't on the list of albums he is featured on. Should probably be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.108.214.23 (talk) 18:14, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Double Album sales
Hey, guys, remember when dealing with album sales, even though Mellon Collie went 9 times platinum, it's a double album, and thus was counted twice for each sale. Thus, it sold 4.5 million copies, not 9. -- Underwater 20:59, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Falsetto
Does anyone have sourced info about Billy using a falsetto voice-- I believe he does in a number of Smashing Pumpkins songs... --Airjesse123 (talk) 18:47, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Cleanup
- someone really needs to spend some time rewriting this artical. i'm doing the best i can when i can...
- Cleanup of what? --Kerowyn 00:50, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- The article looks fine to me...I don't see what needs cleaning up really. Is the tag needed?
- Now that I look at it, I too am confused by the tag. Folkor 06:20, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Whats with The Coral in the first section?
- I'm removing the Cleanup tag. There's really no need. -- Underwater 01:18, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- We really should work on reformatting so that all the external link citations are footnoted rather than just hyperlinked. I started and will work on this when i have more time and its not 3:30 am. -Werideatdusk33 08:31, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
I've been trying hard to add a bit more about Corgan, the man, and a bit less about his individual projects, since those are well-detailed in their own articles. Please help me clear out stuff that is not particularly relevant to Corgan as a solo human. -Werideatdusk33 00:32, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Validity?!
I'm totally not buying into any of the stuff said in this artical. "His father was known to dress him up like a little girl, forcing him to masturbate to pictures of Scott Baio"?! What the hell?! I've read his confessions before, and I sure as hell don't remember Billy masturbating to Chachi anywhere in there. This is all vandalism, that we never noticed yet... We've got to fix up this artical. Bad. And maybe have links to the confessions confirming everything being said... Underwater 19:42, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- If you check the history that was all added by one user 72.16.148.195 about 4 hours before you read this article. It was vandalism and all edits by this user has been reverted. Good catch so I don't think that it needs to be flagged as disputed any more. If you still believe that it does please re-insert it and list the reasons why. Thanks -- UKPhoenix79 22:45, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Starchildren is on the orphan article list because nothing links to it. It claims to be a Billy Corgan side project. Can someone check it out and if true, link to it from some appropriate pages? Also add any good info, etc. Thanks. Thatcher131 19:23, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Starchildren is a real side project. Check out http://www.blamo.org/sp/starchildren/. --S-man 18:50, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Authenticity
How can we be sure that www.myspace.com/billycorgan is really Billy's? It says "Female, 106 years old." so I think that it's probably just a fake. Can someone clarify? --Lew19 14:24, 06 July 2006 (EST)
- No, trust me. That's really his. He hasn't been on in forever, and his account on MySpace mysteriously screwed up and went from a "music" account to a normal account. Since bands don't actually have genders or age, Myspace kinda sticks them with a pointless birthday and gender, and that's why it says he's a 106 year old female. Underwater 00:19, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Rumors
These rumors are obviously all fake with the exception of him turning to christianity. I would delete this myself, but I would rather have the consent of everyone
- It doesn't seem very encyclopedic. I'd rather get rid of the false ones and rename the true one under a Trivia title. -- Reaper X 18:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've taken the liberty to just remove the rumors section. Please do not put it back, unless it is a true "rumor" (I'd rather call it a fact), and you have a source. In that case, please add it in trivia format: bullet it, and put it under the title Trivia. Thanks. -- Reaper X 19:37, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Equipment
Does this section seem a bit superfluous to anyone else? It's not really necessary and it takes up a lot of space.
It's good info to know, since Billy used different equipment between the pumpkins, zwan and the future embrace.
- Guys, please remember to sign your comments! And also, I'm guessing the person who said that this section is superfluous doesn't know much about guitars... I found the whole thing fascinating, but I can see why it seems pointless to somebody else. Underwater 00:27, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
An average person using Wikipedia as well as an average person reading this article does not know enough about guitars to find this section useful. With the exception of guitar players and other experts in the field, most people have no use whatsoever for this section. It belongs in Guitar magazine or something along those lines but definitely not an encyclopedia entry. SWik78 18:10, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes. Having information on a famous guitarist's gear in an article about said famous guitarist is un-needed... Especially since he is known for having and using tons of it. We should probably take out everything about the Smashing Pumpkins as well since we are just here to read about Billy Corgan... And Equipment was spelled wrong in this section. Changed it. SlickCentral 03:12, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- In any case, it should be removed if it is uncited. See WP:V. -- Reaper X 04:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- A lot of it was referenced and came from the Guitar World column (I went through and referenced it) but I agree that it's not really necessary. I've also been working strenuously to add more stuff about Corgan himself, and remove stuff covered in the SP and Zwan articles, but feel free to help prune.-Werideatdusk33 07:10, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Dude, I like the gear talk in articles on musicians. It's so hard to duplicate someone's tone, and any bit of information in that direction helps! If it's sourced, I think it's plenty encyclopedic, just put it at the bottom of the article so people who aren't interested in it don't have to read it. I think the important thing with an artist like Billy who uses lots of gear is to indicate what equipment was used on what recordings, so those of us trying to get a specific sound know what pieces of gear we need to acquire. Please restore this content to this article! Steve CarlsonTalk 17:47, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a how-to guide. SWik78 (talk) 18:58, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- What's the line between information and "how to"? It is not, as WP:NOT#HOWTO specifies, an Instruction Manual (it doesn't tell a person how to hook up all the equipment and dial in his tone). It's information in the sense that it is the gear he used. Jerry Garcia has a list of his guitars, David Gilmour has an extensive list of equipment (which even I think is excessive, especially lacking any indication of which recordings each piece was used on), Kevin Shields has a section on his sound, Slash has a section on his gear... need I go on? If you tried to axe that material from any of those articles I'd imagine you'd get quite a backlash. This is important information to us gearheads! Just because it isn't useful to everyone doesn't mean it shouldn't be here. Steve CarlsonTalk 23:40, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
really...
thought he grewup in GlenEllyn Countryside and went to Glenside Jr. High... seemed pretty cool then.
SP Reunion
About the changes I made. I moved the blurb about Corgan living with Courtney Love to the Post-Pumpkins section, as it has nothing to do with the reunion. I also rearranged the stuff of the signing of the management deal and the Melissa Auf der Maur interview, it happened in that order. I replaced the sources with the ones from The Smashing Pumpkins page to make that clearer. And I deleted the whole Eric Avery thing, as that turned out to be false (see the original post that sparked the rumor and the correction afterward on the Polar Bear website). I perhaps should have added he tried out for the band, but I didnt see it as necessary. and the PR-Inside report does not meet Wikipedia:Verifiability, so I removed all that crap. -- Reaper X 22:44, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- Is there some reason to remove the information that The Smashing Pumpkins will be reuniting for seventeen concerts? It was deleted without explanation, so I'm putting it back.24.6.7.233 00:41, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
I apologize for not explaining it, but this was previously discussed on The Smashing Pumkins page. To make it simple: Wikipedia is NOT a directory. "For example, an article...should not list upcoming events...although mention of major events or promotions may be acceptable". These concert dates are not seen as notable enough by other editors, and I especially disagree with putting them on a member's page. -- Reaper X 02:02, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Gotcha. I wasn't following the story closely so when I saw that news article I thought these shows were to be the first concerts since reuniting. I didn't realize a full tour had already been established and underway. Sorry about that.24.6.7.233 03:56, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
"Rival"??
As his rival, Kurt Cobain, also used this guitar frequently...
- His "rival"? WTF? The article includes only one other mention of Cobain, and that's to describe a similarity between Cobain and Corgan. This alleged "rivalry" needs an explanation with citations, or else a swift deletion. Cribcage 22:22, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, "rival"...I strongly disagree with that as well. -- Reaper X 22:26, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Corgan was extremely jealous of Kurt because Courtney Love dumped him then started dating Cobain. I remember reading in Anthony Keidis' auto-biography that Billy pulled the Pumpkins off of a tour in the early 90's because Nirvana had been added to the bill and he hated the thought of having to open under Kurt. --72.143.125.146 16:44, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

That ad picture
Is there any reason this article actualy need to keep this image arouncd :Image:Billy Corgan - Tribune Ad.jpg? If so the thumbnail version is pointles, there should be only one copy of the image and reducing the image in size to comply with the fair use policy is pointles if we are going to keep the high-resolution version around anyway. I think the article will be just fine just describing the gist of the ad without the need to have the full text available so I tagged the big one as orphanded. If anyone have a compelling reason for why beeing eable to read the full text of the add is crutial to this article please bake it into a fair use rationale and use the big one directly. Personaly I don't think it's needed though, the ad is basicaly just another source and there is no need to quote it in entierty inline. --Sherool (talk) 10:24, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Ironically?
What in God's name is ironic about Corgan's first axe being a used Gibson Les Paul? If there is an irony there it ought to be explained.
- please sign your posts with four tildes (Tinkstar1985 13:03, 3 February 2007 (UTC)).
Personal Life?
There should really be a personal life section for Corgan... There is no information about his marriage, relationships, etc. I realize a lot of information is not widely available, but, for instance, I don't see anything about him dating Courtney Love and Yelena Yemchuk anywhere.
- I agree, especially as the article mentions Nikki Kovacevich but not Chris Fabian, Billy's wife from 1993-1997. Surely she should havve been mentioned, especially considering the influence the divorce likely had on Adore? Sephiel 12:16, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'm adding a personal life section. It doesnt have many citations, so please add some! But dont delete the section without discussion here. -Werideatdusk33 23:47, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Make sure you mention how he is dating/dated Tila Tequila.128.86.154.186 (talk) 22:35, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
edited some small things
I edited two sentances. I removed the "eventually" from the sentance about his mother that read: "She was eventually committed to a mental institution for a brief period of time." to "She was committed to a mental institution for a brief period of time." I don't think saying "eventually" very delicately handles the sensitive matter of talking about a living person being committed to a mental institution.
I changed "The heartbreak caused him to write his hit single, "1979."" to "The heartbreak was the inspiration for him to write his hit single, "1979."" It just reads better. Heartbreak doesn't cause people to write songs it inspires them. --Bfarb 17:29, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

External links
http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_musical_artist states that the URL must be link to the artists official website.
The livejournal doesn't qualify as an official website since it's maintained by a third party with no connection to Billy or the pumpkins, although it claims to be "authorized by the management". I think it's a good resource though and has its place in the article.
And keeping the link to Billy's private MySpace doesn't serve any purpose since it's been empty for a long time now.--88.85.130.223 22:32, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Missing from the article - 'A baldy twat in a dress': Sharon Osbourne
I'm surprised to find there's nothing in this article about the period when Billy was managed by Sharon Osbourne and how they fell out, with Sharon memorably describing him in an issue of Q (magazine) a few years ago as 'A baldy twat in a dress.' 86.134.10.119 12:22, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- This relationship is addressed in the Osbourne article. It could probably be mentioned here somewhere though I'm not sure what section it would best fit into. -Werideatdusk33 (talk) 23:48, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
corgan sr.
Billy Corgan's dad is a blues guitarist. If he was a jazz guitarist, why would he encourage his son to listen to Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck? Neither of the two play jazz styles! If Corgan Sr. is a jazz guitarist, why would he join The Smashing Pumpkins onstage to play "Born Under A Bad Sign" at the farewell Metro concert in 2000? "Born Under A Bad Sign" is most certainly a blues track (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Born_Under_a_Bad_Sign).

American Christians
On the bottom, it puts Bily Corgin under "American Christian." Where did this info come from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.105.128.59 (talk) 00:21, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- No idea. I've removed the category entry. Oli Filth(talk) 00:51, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Here's an interview where he speaks of how he's found God. Despite the fact that he's hesitant to label himself a Christian, quotes like "I didn't find Jesus, he was there all the time" seem to imply he is. Here's another link which talks about the change in his lyrcs since he's rediscovered religion. http://www.christianitytoday.com/music/glimpses/2007/zeitgeist.html I'm going to readd him to the category, if someone has an issue with it feel free to remove him and let us know why here. Ash Loomis (talk) 22:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- Corgan isn't generally noted as a "Christian", and indeed this link (to a Christian website) acknowledges that he "doesn't necessarily consider himself one today". I believe you'd struggle to find any other independent support (i.e. refs) for this stance, I'm afraid. Therefore categorising article as "American Christian", i.e. a defining, notable charcteristic, is far too big a leap, IMO, especially when the article body doesn't so much as mention it. Oli Filth(talk) 23:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- I could have sworn I'd posted a link to a longer interview with Paste Magazine first, which would qualify as independent support. (I've added the link to Paste Magazine into my original post.) The link to the Christian site was just to show how his lyics have changed over time to show how his return to religion has influenced his music. I'm not going to readd him to the category, I'm just embarrassed I only provided a link to a Christian site. I thought I posted the interview as well. Ash Loomis (talk) 01:15, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Do you mean this one? Even so, I think it would be tenuous to categorise him as an "American Christian" (even if he explicitly defined himself as such, rather than explicitly not define himself as such), because it's not a widely-cited, widely-touted, notable characteristic. I imagine 80% of famous Americans are christian, but we don't mark them all as such, unless it has particular relevance. Oli Filth(talk) 01:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'd have to agree with that assessment. His religion has never been a big issue - on the contrary, it has been shrouded in a bit of mystery as to what exactly his beliefs are. He shouldn't be pinned down like this unless the evidence and relevance is indisputable. -Werideatdusk33 (talk) 17:54, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- His views of "Jesus" and "God" really points to pantheism I think calling him a Christian is a wicked turnoff for interested youth that don't like labels. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.107.64.149 (talk) 21:34, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- So sorry that facts about him might turn off people. 'Superchrist'... the prayer he makes everyday that he mentions on his new blog 'let me see through christs eyes' come on. Stop making excuses for an obvious christian.--24.245.4.62 (talk) 00:22, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Abandoned projects
Anyone in favor of keeping the "Abandoned projects" section? I know I had a hand in creating it, but now it feels a but unencyclopedic - not really notable to a discussion of his life. If no one objects, I believe I'll remove it entirely, and maybe find a few important parts to move elsewhere where they'd be more appropriate, such as discussions of the specific albums that are related (Vieuphoria, etc.) --Werideatdusk33 (talk) 20:38, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Allegations of transphobia
Why is this sourced and added to the personal life section? I'd remove, but I don't want to interfere with sources. For a twitter comment made during the last 24 hours, posted as a retort to an argument with a pedal-maker, I think it's jumping the gun to call him transphobic... 90.200.129.208 (talk) 11:35, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- The transphobia is clear and has quickly become a matter of public record... it is established that Corgan already had a significant relationship with the trans woman in question through facebook, nevertheless he deliberately referred to her in public as "he/she" and called her an "ugly pig". Further private fb discussion has become public, including the fact that he dared the woman in question to sue him stating "if you still got enough balls to go there, try me." This is a clear reference to her trans status and obviously an expression of hate/disgust. He further calls her "self-hating" and an "addict" (what else would this refer to?) along with threats of physical violence. The description of these comments as transphobic is valid and those comments are now a significant part of Corgan's public history. Yavanna of Valinor (talk) 03:28, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, I have written a well-documented and (I feel) neutral account of the incidents surrounding the transphobia question. If someone feels the wording could be improved in terms of neutrality, feel free, however there is no basis to delete the entry. I would emphasize though that regarding the 1986 account, I am mostly paraphrasing Corgan's own words regarding what happened, so I think it would be difficult to argue that any of that is biased. Yavanna of Valinor (talk) 06:39, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- The fact the entry is sourced doesn't mean anything, Wikipedia is not a collection of sourced irrelevant facts. The first part still hasn't reached (and probably won't reach) official media coverage; the second is obviously an Original Research, since the two events aren't related to each other.--82.51.29.163 (talk) 09:34, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- "The term "original research" (OR) is used on Wikipedia to refer to material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published source exists.". Pretty sure you misunderstood when you thought that the second part was original research. Billy Corgan's own live journal is probably the closest you can get to a reliable source on Billy Corgan's personal life - I can't fathom why you seem to think that some major news syndicate needs to publish something before it can be in wikipedia.GeorgeGeoffries (talk) 10:16, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- The two events are similar because they are almost exactly the same thing: Corgan encounters a trans woman, refers to her with male pronouns and threatens her with physical violence. Putting the two things beside each other is not original research, it is just putting Corgan's two known encounters with trans women beside each other. The present wording does not draw out any conclusion based on these two incidents.. the reader is free to draw their own conclusions. Yavanna of Valinor (talk) 10:37, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Relevance of Reference to Bradford Cox
I don't understand the inclusion of the reference to Bradford Cox. I had never heard of Deerhunter before. It's clearly trivia that has been inserted into the Wikipedia page of Billy Corgan as an indirect way of driving traffic to the Wikipedia link of Bradford Cox. Regardless of how many references it has, it is clearly irrelevant trivia that belongs solely on the page of Bradford Cox--not Billy Corgan. I would never have known about Cox, except for the fact that I clicked on the link to his page because of the reference. It's inclusion is so absurd that it made me wonder, "Who the hell is that guy and why is he included in the page on Billy Corgan?" I would guess that the reason there are so many references to irrelevant trivia is that Bradford Cox is the one who included that anecdote as a shameless way of promoting himself vicariously through the page of a more famous person.64.134.152.13 (talk) 22:21, 22 May 2016 (UTC) 22:23, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
I will remove the anecdote about Bradford Cox because it is clearly derogatory information that is trivial and irrelevant and clearly intended to insinuate the name of Bradford Cox within the Wikipedia page of a famous musician and drive traffic to his page. The reference clearly states "According to Bradford Cox," and then states that Cox withdrew the story but adds that Corgan never denied the story. So what? The story is clearly intended to portray Cox as a victim and Corgan as a bully. While Corgan's response might sound extreme or rude--it may also be appropriate. The anecdote confesses that Cox stole a bottle of water. That's theft regardless of the price of the item and I doubt that Cox "needed" it. If anything, water can be golden at concerts where vendors jack-up the prices of anything and you need water because your mouth is dry. Also consider that, Corgan has to be concerned about the possibility of someone spiking his water with drugs of almost any kind. So if anything, the anecdote puts Cox in a bad light.2601:646:A200:4B00:9532:3EFA:E5C3:4E7A (talk) 01:57, 25 May 2016 (UTC)2601:646:A200:4B00:9532:3EFA:E5C3:4E7A (talk) 01:57, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
