Should family members' names be restored?
editWP:LPNAME says "... The names of any immediate, former, or significant family members or any significant relationship of the subject of a BLP may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject. ...". I had originally included the names (in this edit) when mentioning (with citations) that he was survived by his wife and two children. Then I removed them (by this edit) after reading LPNAME, on the basis that they were "probably not strictly relevant to an understanding of the story, per WP:LPNAME". But I'm having my doubts, especially given the expression 'complete understanding', as removing the names on privacy grounds arguably also tends to make the matter less personal and thus reduces the reader's ability to empathize with the tragedy (which is arguably why repressive regimes tend to replace a prisoner's name with a mere serial number). Reducing our ability to empathize with a tragedy arguably reduces our ability to completely understand it, so arguably the names should be restored to our article , but as there are also privacy considerations involved I would prefer to leave such a decision to wiser editors than me. Was he divorced?
editThe article first states "He was divorced and had two children.". Later, it states "He was survived by his wife and their two young children,". Was he divorced or were he and his wife still married? Benmsch (talk) 21:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- I have removed the divorce info, as there is no mention that he was divorced in the reference used. Editrite! (talk) 08:00, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
