removed evaluation of book
editWikipedia is not the place to settle scores or rehash criticisms. the section I excised was particularly bad in that it uses the trite, emotional modifier "telling" which shows the writer is pushing a POV. Also there is no citation of the active duty Marine criticisms or the noteworthiness of why active duty critics should be so special. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TCO (talk • contribs) 05:13, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Confused
editCan someone explain what this sentence means (and preferably re-write it): "He served with a Combined Action Platoon that fought for 485 days in a remote village." I presume it means that his platoon was in a village for 485 days, and that they frequently fought someone (VC? NVR?)--not that there was a running gunfight for 485 days, which is what it sounds like at first reading. (I'm also a bit puzzled--I had thought that the typical tour of duty for ground soldiers in Nam was a year; I guess his platoon would have been composed of mostly different soldiers at the beginning of the 485 days, and the end. Maybe he was the only one left out of the original bunch. But that's a different question, perhaps not worth clarifying here.) Mcswell (talk) 23:50, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
I read his book on the CAP program in Vietnam. He said many of the marines voluntarily extended their tours, so presumably so did he. They did do a lot of fighting. The CAPs lived in the villages (mostly) and did security and patrolling. They saw lots of combat. It is an interesting book. --65.30.61.82 (talk) 07:01, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
