As far as im concerened the Dialect for the "Real Bintulu" was easily can be differentiate from "Melanau" even the Melanaus couldn't Understands The Bintulu Dialect.. The Original Bintulu dialect only can be understand amongst the Bintulu people such as From Bintulu to Tatau to Labang to Pandan to Sebauh to Suai and Kuala Suai to Batu Niah to Nyalau (some part) to Miri (some parts).. not even one of these peoples can speak "Melanau"... and All Bintulu people are Muslim if compared to Melanaus there are Christians,Pagans and Muslim. Bintulu (Picking Of Heads)
Bintulu or Vaie as the locals call it has many versions on where it has gotten its name. The interesting one I have found out so far is it derived from two words "METUK ULAU" literally translated into "Picking of Heads". After a while, the pronounciation of Metuk Ulau changed to Mentulau and then to Bentulau and lastly to Bintulu as it is now known. Since Sarawak is in Borneo and Borneo is well known for its headhunters I can only conclude that Bintulu was once famous for the activities of head hunting. As for the local Bintulu dialect/language, I agree that it differs from the other Melanau dialects. Suprisingly, some words spoken in Bintulu dialect has similarity to tagalog. There are stories told that people from the island of Cebu in the philippines came to Bintulu and Sibu to reside. Hence, some tagalog words in the local dialect. I am assuming and I hope somebody can shed some light on the matter.Significant in the Filipino language is the word 'ikaw' that you and 'ako' is me, in terms of Bintulu Melanau language 'iqaw' mean 'you' and 'aqaw' that mean 'me', it sounds in the throat, while other words are still far more different.
