New start for this page
editAs at August 2009, this page contained very little, despite there being hopefully a number of parties potentially able to contribute (witness >500 attendees at the recent e-Biosphere Biodiversity Informatics conference in London, plus the current funding of major BI initiatives including GBIF, OBIS, EOL, Catalogue of Life, etc. etc.). I have attempted to make a start in re-casting this page to properly reflect the BI discipline, also deprecating the previous more-or-less duplicate page Biodiversity information, also with almost no content, that now redirects here. Text that was previously part of this page has been left at the end but commented out, with the intention of re-using portions of it as time permits, especially one or two key references that were cited therein.
One thing I am not sure of - some previous page content residing here (including a graphic) tended towards the area of niche modelling. I have included a reference or two to this domain in the current text as restructured here, but am not sure whether it belongs here properly or should go on a new page that could be titled e.g. "Niche modelling" or similar. Niche modelling
editAs foreshadowed above, there is now a new page for niche modelling, and the niche modelling example graphic formerly included here has been transferred thereTony1212 (talk) 10:07, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
