editI have a list of the names of Bir Protik.Actually it is in the famous novel'Josna O Jononir Golpo' of Humayun Ahmed.Should I include it here or should i create a new article like 'list of bir protiks'? Tarif Ezaz Bangladesh 20:38, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- A separate article is better as the list is too big to include in this article. --Ragib 20:45, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- I haven't noticed this talk page earlier, so i did include some of them. Miltonzs 12:37, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Since there is another page titled Recipients of Bangladeshi military awards in 1971, this article can be made a list-article. A separate article will make this article weak. User:Sabih omar 04:33, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, the other article you refer to is a bit of overkill. That is, we already list the military award recipients in individual article, so there is no need for that all-encompassing article. --Ragib (talk) 04:59, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Sources
editThis article does not cite any sources and therefore is not verifiable. I have tagged it as such. Hope somebody can add refs against all the names. → AA (talk • contribs) — 16:02, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Recipients
editI plan to complete the list of Bir Protik day by day. I have the materials. --Anwarul Islam (talk) 08:26, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Suggestions for improvement
editThis article is currently listed as a stub by the military history project, but I feel that with a bit of effort it could be brought up to B class standard. I have the following suggestions:
- expand the lead section to summarise the article (it is currently only one short sentence, but could be expanded to discuss how the award came about, how many recipients, who is eligible, etc.
- add an expanded history section;
- add in line citations for every paragraph/block of information — internet links to the Bangladesh Gazette for the citations would be great, if it is available online;
- add an image of the award to the infobox;
Just a few ideas. These also apply to the other Bangladesh military awards. Once you feel that the article is ready for re-assessment, please add it to the list at WP:MHA. Hope this helps. Cheers. — AustralianRupert (talk) 04:29, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Sourcing
editUnless citations start appearing very soon, I am going to remove every single red-linked name in these lists. Per WP:V, all these need some sort of verifiability, and they are not even linked to standalone articles. It is atrocious. - Sitush (talk) 17:24, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- I Agree, but it's worse than that, in that not only are most of the links red, but also nearly all of the blue links are wrong. I checked them all through and found 3 (yes, just three) correct links for names of recipients. I might conceivably have missed one or two more, but certainly not many. The only correct ones are:
Sl. no. ID no. Rank (At the time of award) NAME 06 Major (Temporary Lieutenant Colonel) Akbar Hossain 12 FF William AS Ouderland (Sector-2) 119 FF Shahidul Islam (Sector-11)
- Yes, incorrect blue links is a common tendency on lists of Indian people. I'll be going through those also. My editing scalpel is sharp, so if anyone wants to stop the cutting I suggest that they do something soon. - Sitush (talk) 20:03, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- Do it, you know you want to, be bold. WP:V and WP:RS are pretty important, and Wikipedia is not a listing of all recipients of any given award, just the notable ones, and even then a category suffices to identify most recipients. Cheers. EricSerge (talk) 01:31, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed, it needs the cleaning. Get a big exacto knife and do work. If there are any problems they will be sorted out.Millertime246 (talk) 01:43, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
- No, I will give it a few days. Obviously, anyone else is welcome to do the (apparent) necessary. My view is that because this article appears to have escaped "proper" scrutiny for some time then it is only right to give an opportunity for those who have contributed to it, and there have been several such people recently. Perhaps I am in a benevolent mood at present, but that does not prevent someone else stepping in. If nobody does then feel free to ping me in, say, a week's time. - Sitush (talk) 01:43, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- In preparation for what might have to come later this week, I am delinking all the obviously fallacious connections over the next few hours. - Sitush (talk) 17:43, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- I note from the lead that "The following list has been prepared as of the Bangladesh Gazette of 15 December 1973." Obviously, it is not since additional names were added. I do not have access to the source but what is also clear is that quite a few of those named actually received a higher award and so should not be in this article. Since this is also a relatively minor award, I am not even sure if the article should exist as a list. Certainly, receiving the award fails the notability test for an individual - see Wikipedia:MILPEOPLE#People - unless there is some additional cause of notability.
- Consequently, I am now inclined to delete the entire list, and it may even be appropriate to redirect what then remains of the article to a more appropriate place (if there is such a thing). - Sitush (talk) 19:30, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
