Ref?
edit"1.4 x 1014 kg of water is passed through black smokers each year." - Any references ? JoJan 16:30, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
It was my impression that the term "black smoker" most commonly refers to the individual "smoke" spewing chimneys themselves. Implying that these chimneys themselves are "generally hundreds of meters wide" is most definitely wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.9.102.81 (talk • contribs) 23:32, 28 March 2006
microscale caverns?
editThe article on the origin of life has a section on, among other things, black smokers. There, it says that "these structures consist of microscale caverns that are coated by thin membraneous metal sulfide walls". It seems strange to me that these "chimneys" can consist of something in microscale. // habj 22:32, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
The other black smoker?
editThere isn't much need for an article about the use of tobacco among different ethnicities, is there? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 21:58, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editI suggest this page be merged into the article on hydrothermal vents, as black smokers are a subtype of the former. DiverDave (talk) 02:33, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
