Why "Blackfeet Indian Reservation"? Hyacinth 01:40, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I'm so confused. I changed the second given title to "Blackfoot Nation", feeling sure that that is correct. Then I checked the Blackfeet article and was surprised by the content I remembered writing which, contrary to my memories, indicated that it is "Blackfeet Nation".
But when I happened to check the edit history of that page I discovered that what I had written had been directly contradicted with no evidence.
I looked at the new external link (website) given for the tribal govt and discovered that what I had thought was the official website was actually a commercial site.
But when I actually went to those pages, I discovered that what is listed as a commercial site was indeed the official site, and that the new cite added as official is commercial.
What the heck is going on? Hyacinth 01:47, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Ah, the "official" website is deceitful and the actual official website is modest. Good work User:Rmhermen. Hyacinth 01:52, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The article's main title being at "Blackfeet Indian Reservation" rather than "Blackfoot Nation" ("Blackfeet Nation") endorses the US government's attempt to treat US-Indian issues as domestic rather than international. Is there a guideline that indicates "Reservation" over "Nation"? Hyacinth 03:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is the article on the reservation, the article on the tribe is at Blackfeet with redirect for Piegan Blackfeet and South Piegan. The whole confederacy is discussed at Blackfoot. Rmhermen (talk) 01:03, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Confusion between tribe and reservation

edit

Blackfeet Nation is a tribe. Blackfeet Indian Reservation is a reservation. The opening sentence claims that the Blackfeet Nation, aka the Blackfeet Tribe, is a reservation!

I'm thinking the best thing is to split into two articles, one about the tribe and another about the reservation. There would be, however, two possible processes to achieve this:

  1. As the article is currently named for the tribe, split off the reservation to a new article called Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
  2. As the majority of the content (and article history) is about the reservation, revert the article to its pre-July 2017 name of Blackfeet Indian Reservation and then split off a new article called 'Blackfeet Nation'.

Thoughts? Volunteers? (I'm not an expert in the topic.) Nurg (talk) 06:19, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

In the second paragraph under "Culture" some text and part of a reference were mistakenly deleted, making the sentence and the reference inaccessible. If anyone has access to the older version or the correct text, please modify. Danblum (talk) 01:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
