Note on very low shares
editIn 2005 the Liberal Democrats received their lowest share of the vote in the United Kingdom and the Conservatives their second lowest, and both lost their deposits.
I'm not sure this specific comment is necessarily relevant - the circumstances of 2005 were extremely unusual and there is a lot of evidence from other elections that even party activists will desert their party at the ballot box when there's a strong candidacy on a local one-off issue. This isn't to say either party would have had a result to write home about last year but as presently presented it looks like the area is a total desert for either party. - It probably needs more explanation, but this is an exceptionally weak seat for them - neither party has topped 10% since '87, and the Tories never made one eighth of the vote, even in the early 80s. Warofdreams talk 02:35, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Independent candidates
editThe election box for the 2006 by-election says that there was a 12% drop in the share of the vote for Dai Davies, when he didn't stand in the previous election. Is it fair to compare his share of the vote with the previous different (albeit closely linked) independent candidate? Jh39 (talk) 14:40, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
Missing abolished constituency (redirects here)
editIn fact checking on Michael Foot, I have discovered that the Ebbw Vale constituency he represented redirects to this page, yet there is NO information on that constituency given. (Granted it appears it was formed in 1960 and abolished in 1983, and Foot was the only MP it elected in that time.)
Could someone with correct information/local knowledge create a section so that the redirection makes sense?? Thanks. --gobears87 (talk) 16:59, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think it does makes sense to redirect, as not insignificant boundary changes took place between Ebbw Vale and Blaenau Gwent (as pointed out in the article). Unless anyone objects, I will create an article for the Ebbw Vale constituency. Crooked cottage (talk) 23:11, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
