Encyclopedia vs. PR texts

edit

I have undone these changes by User:WallmanPR, a new editor which is apparently more familiar with writing in the advertising style of PR texts than with the factual, neutral tone expected in an encyclopedia and especially Wikipedia, as is evident in the fuzzy, almost fact-free marketing speak of the first sentence, for example:

Blair Underwood has distinguished himself as an award-winning actor/director/producer who continues to showcase his multitude of talents in the world of film, television, theatre and literature.

See also Wikipedia:Avoid peacock terms.

In addition, no sources were cited, and a vast amount of sourced content was deleted without an explanation. Regards, HaeB (talk) 17:32, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some good info, but the article is short and missing citations. The biographical section is too short.--Yannismarou 10:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blair's 1992 movie

edit

I am wondering if it would be appropriate to expand a bit on Blair's 1992 short movie "The Second Coming?" He was the director and played the lead roll of Jesus Christ. Narrated by James Earl Jones. Information can be found at these links: [[1]]. And [[2]]. EditorASC (talk) 16:56, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Early Life

edit

"Underwood was born in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Marilyn Ann Scales, an interior decorator, and Frank Eugene Underwood, Sr., a United States Army colonel. Underwood lived on bases and Army Posts in the United States and Stuttgart, Germany throughout his childhood due to his father's military career. Blair attended Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Virginia."

The above displays on the Blair Underwood wiki page. I want to add that Blair attended at least one year at Carmel High School class of 1982. Fort Ord, DLI, and NPS are nearby US Military Bases of operation where his father may have been stationed. To my best recollection Blair was the only African American student in his class at that time, and he was immediately recognized on his appearances on "One Life to Live" on ABC. I will attempt to gather supporting documentation, CHS yearbook, etc. since wiki designated the need for a citation at the end of the above listed sentence. I also wish to add that this article is very nicely written and that I'll leave my editorial comments in the writer's hands as a point of information. I trust their discretion in the need to add information or to alter their article in any way. Nevertheless, I will be back with any citation data that may be helpful in supporting my recollection.

I apologize in advance if I did this wrong. I hope not to have created a disturbance in the force or extra work for admins.

OOPS!!

Epic fail of the above information regarding Blair's attendance at Carmel High School class of 1982. I cannot find any supporting citation since the information is likely false. I apologize in perpetuity. For the record, I feel compelled to confess my confusion which is best illustrated in this email from my brother Jonathan: "Blair Underwood is my age - he would have been class of 82. I went to high school with Thyme Lewis who was on Days of Our Lives though, and he's black." Which is mighty white of me to confuse daytime soap operas...
