Does anyone else find this term hilarious? Just say it. If anyone knows, I think we should mention the creative soul who coined this amusing word. I mean- blebbing- srsly? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.194.200.62 (talk) 00:15, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Anyone know anything about the origins of the word? Who coined it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.255.68.165 (talk) 16:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think we should leave the issue concerning the construction of the term to the discoverers themselves. They may be able to explain. :P
Anyway, I'll try to look up the etymology of the term some other time. For now, I'll try and merge this article with the bleb article. :) --Animeronin (talk) 14:43, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the name is a bit funny -- but descriptive, yes? I slightly modified the organization of the entry and added several references. Medical geneticist (talk) 17:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, I don't really thing that bleb and blebbing should be merged, since they're different phenomena and they're are used in different contexts. Aren't they? --Gustavocarra (talk) 16:57, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Edits/Improvements

edit

The information in the article is a good start, but there is not a lot. There are no obvious mistakes that I can point out in the information, or in the grammar. There could have been a sentence or two in the beginning bringing up apoptosis; nothing is mentioned about it until the physiological functions section. I would have liked to see apoptosis have its own section in this article opposed to being under the physiological functions section; formation of blebs is an important role in apoptosis. Maybe the section could be called Physiological functions in apoptosis. Also, some more information on how a bleb forms during apoptosis can be helpful. I am not saying a full in detail description, but maybe a little more detail in why and how the cytoskeleton breaks up. All the references are still available and credible, however, the most recent reference was from the mid-to-late 2000's; more recent articles could be found. A couple of more recent references could not hurt this article. Thank you for your time and I am looking forward to hearing back from all of you. Further Edits

edit

The introduction to the article is improved by the most recent edits of FCapobianco, as it was difficult for the average reader to understand previously. I have elaborated the introduction and formation sections slightly, adding some more detail to the descriptions with additional references. For the next edit, I suggest further elaborating on the non-apoptotic section to explain the relationship between blebbing and cell motility and cytokinesis. Dynamic blebbing should also be described somewhere, in brief, to distinguish the difference between dynamic and non-dynamic blebbing. To all users, please offer any suggestions, comments or concerns. I look forward to your feedback. Thank you.

Is there more information on the inhibition of blebs? The section on inhibition seems short.

In the "Nonapoptoic functions" section, where the characteristics of blebs are described, shouldn't there be a citation?

Future Edit Plans

edit

I plan on expanding the formation section with additional info on factors driving bleb formation and ways that blebs have been artificially induced in the past. I also want to add a new section with how blebs affect cell migration, which expands on the brief mention of this function in the nonapoptotic functions section. I will also add some information about inhibition using an article about blebbistatin. Finally, I may add some additional citations across article. --Theowg (talk) 15:28, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
