release date?
editI've always heard that the single was released in 1976. I checked a few sources that confirm this. I'll wait a week, if I don't see any confirmation of the Nov. 75 release date I will make a correction. Lenbrazil
- yeah, i found july '76 in most sources, so i would just go ahead. also, since this is such an important song and all, i think this article should really be expanded.

- oh, nevermind.
Expand/improve
editI have tried to expand/improve this article a little, but I am unfortunately no Ramones expert. It do think that Dee Dee Ramone wrote most of the lyrics, as he lived in Germany for 14 years and had a fascination with the country. The music of this song is very simple, so it's also likely that DD wrote the music. Conclusion: Dee Dee wrote Blitzkrieg Bop. I haven't found a clear confirmation however that he was also the one who first came up with the line "He, ho, let's go!". Something that also needs some improvement is the meaning part. And as you can see this article needs a little more information anyway. So... any big Ramone fans here? - Face 18:36, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- It was written by Tommy, it's common knowledge as far as I know. It is stated in the booklet of "Hey Ho Let's Go: Anthology", Dee Dee only changed the original line "they're shouting in the back now" with "shoot 'em in the back now". Tommy also said it in this interview: http://www.markprindle.com/erdelyi-i.htm
- What songs did you write for the band? A lot of people don't realize that you actually did - you wrote "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," right?
Yeah, I wrote "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and "Blitzkrieg Bop" for our first album.
Aw man, you wrote "Blitzkrieg Bop"?
Yeah.
That's like the best song ever!
Well, thank you!

- What songs did you write for the band? A lot of people don't realize that you actually did - you wrote "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," right?
So, it was Tommy who wrote this song after all? That's remarkable. Anyway, thanks for this information! I will change it immediately. - Face 18:35, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
I wanna be your Boyfriend
editi'm 95 to 100% sure that tommy (or maybe joey) wrote i wanna be your boyfriend. definitely not deedee. Joeyramoney 02:56, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Chords
edit"Based on a simple three-chord pattern,", as quoted from the article. There are four chords in this song, not 3. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.155.207 (talk • contribs) at 16:01, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's definitely three chords. A5, D5, and E5. Standard I, IV, V progression. --Dane ~nya 10:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- IImajor chord is used as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.67.92 (talk • contribs) at 22:23, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
The verse uses three chords:
A D E They're forming in a straight line. etc.
The chorus uses four chords; it has a fourth B chord at the end:
D Hey, ho, let's go. E A D A Shoot 'em in the back now. D What they want I don't know. B D E They're all reved up and ready to go!
And that's it. NOTE: the song is, ofcourse, played with power chords so you could as wel write them as A5, D5, E5 and B5. - Face 12:43, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's fair to say that the song is "based on a simple three-chord pattern" (the current wording). That's not quite the same as saying that it only has three chords in total, and the alternatives - "based on a simple three-chord pattern, although the song actually has a fourth chord in the chorus" or "the song has four chords, with the verses using a simple three-chord pattern and the choruses using a more complex pattern that introduces a fourth chord" - sounds too pedantic, too much like Alan Pollack, the Beatles guy. "Although punk songs of the period were often stereotyped as containing just three chords and the truth, Blitzkrieg Bop actually has four chords" would be just ridiculous. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 19:29, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
- Erm, what key is this in? I'm not great with them. --↑ɻ⅞θʉɭђɥл₮₴Ṝ 10:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
____ Like the most of Ramones song, the chords of Blitzkrieg Bop are BARRE-CHORDS, NOT power-chords; you can see and hear it from any live show of the band. If you listen carefully also the studio version, you can clearly hear the major thirds (A-E-A-C#) also in the main riff, not only in the chorus. Johnny Ramone always used all downstroked BARRE-CHORDS! - Matteo - ____ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.149.76.49 (talk) 22:40, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

editHe, what happened with the image? - Face 19:56, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Another reference
editI'm a-prettyprettysure that this song was in Jimmy Neutron without the line "Shoot 'em in the back now" -Alex H.
Never mind, it was there. -Alex H.
Let's Knife
editShonen Knife's "Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl)" sounds mighty similar to "Blitzkrieg Bop", but there must be lots of songs that sound like "Blitzkrieg Bop". It would interesting if Mr Chords above could shed some light on this. There's quite a thorough discussion of the Ramones' chords as part of Mark Prindle's review comments here (search for "bullshit"). "I Don't Wanna Go Down To the Basement" uses seven chords and the average is five, which is basically Pink Floyd. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 18:29, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Lyrics
editI'm fairly sure they are saying "oy, oh" and not "hey, ho" in the opening. It doesn't sound anything like "hey", even with an accent. I would just edit it without saying anything, but I figured I'd make sure I discuss it first.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K56soYl0U1w this version is the one I hear most. - 66.189.139.72 (talk) 23:04, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
English translation of "Blitzkrieg"
editI think the translation of "Blitzkrieg" as "lightning war" is misleading. The term refers to a surprisingly fast attack compared to a long-lasting conflict with high material attrition. Hence, "flash war" might be a better translation (In German, both flash and lightning are translated to "Blitz").
